As 2010 comes to an end, it's always so exciting to look back at the year in review. We celebrated our 5th birthday, as well as an extension of our contract with City of Joburg in March, for a further 18 months. The collaboration between the City of Joburg, JMPD, OUTsurance, Talk Radio 702 and various other sponsors undoubtedly remains the most successful Public Private Partnership in SA to date.
Traffic Freeflow's recent BEE rating proudly escalated a notch, achieving AAA level 2 contributor status!
Another major success story was the introduction of 10 OUTsurance sponsored Pointsmen into the Soweto region in June 2010. The response from the general public was overwhelming, resulting in the staff compliment being increased to 18 shortly after, to assist with the commencement of construction of the BRT lanes in Orlando West. Thank you to OUTsurance for your unfailing commitment to the project.
The company has grown in many respects during the year. The staff compliment currently stands at 118 Pointsmen. We introduced profiling software to assist in selecting candidates with the right temperament as part of the interview process, which has proven to be invaluable. The implementation of a performance bonus structure for the Pointsmen has contributed significantly to the motivation and performance of the Poinstmen.
The demand for assistance at events has resulted in this being the biggest area of growth within the business during the course of the year. Who could forget our magical Soccer World Cup? Traffic Freeflow's dedicated Pointsmen assisted motorists and pedestrians alike at flooded fan park hotspots. Other prestigious events covered during the year included, Telkom PGA; Homemakers Expo; St Stithians Rugby Festival, King Edwards Easter Festival; World Superbike Series; 702 Mother's Day Concert at the Joburg Zoo; Gauteng Carnival; 702 Discovery Walk the Talk; Zwartkops Cars in the Park; 94.7 Santam Joburg Day; Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge; Sisters with Blisters and the recent Men's Health Urbanathlon.
Annually, Traffic Freeflow awards a "Pointsman of the Year" award to the most efficient, dedicated and passionate Pointsman who has gone the extra mile. This year we have received a very generous prize donation of a Vuka XL110cc Scuta from Kolok South Africa for the lucky recipient. Thank you Kolok!
Capetonians will be privileged to experience the efficacy of the OUTsurance Pointsmen early in 2011. Approvals have been granted, and recruitment is currently underway. An initial team of 20 will ensure that traffic in and out of the City Centre flows a lot quicker and smoother. This will be a momentous occasion, further illustrating the growth of the project.
We are proud of not only assisting in alleviating traffic congestion on the roads, but also contributing substantially to the upliftment of previously disadvantaged individuals over the recent years, through our generous support from OUTsurance and our many other sponsors.
We are very excited about the growth and improvements that we have planned for 2011 and the many possibilities that it may bring.
The Pointsmen will be taking a well deserved break over the festive season, their last working day being the 15th December and resuming on the 10th January 2011.
We wish all our staff, partners, suppliers and motorists a very Happy Festive Season, and safe travelling!
