Damelin and CityVarsity sponsored teams scoop Top Gear awards

Two of the three schools sponsored by the Educor Group emerged victorious at Top Gear's F1 in Schools Challenge held on Saturday, 17 May, at The Sunzone, Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World.

The only 'all girls' team to come in the top three, Durban Girls College, sponsored by CityVarsity, received the Best Marketing and Sponsorship award and also claimed third prize in the overall competition.

Crossmoor Secondary School sponsored by Damelin, came out tops with the Best Engineered car and won this category hands down.

The three schools, Durban Girls' College, Crossmoor Secondary and Umlazi Comtech, each received a sponsorship of R25,000 CityVarsity, Damelin and Central Technical College respectively. The sponsorship included the branding of the cars, uniforms, pit stands, portfolio layout and print, as well as giveaways for the competition day.

Group Head of Communications, Jessie Naidoo said, "It was really awesome that two of our teams did phenomenally well seeing that they were first time entrants. The 'all girls' team in particular proves that females can excel in the traditionally male-dominated field."

The Educor Group endorsed Top Gear's F1 in Schools Challenge in support of technology and engineering in secondary schools, which was the preamble to the Top Gear Festival, which will take place on 21 and 22 June.
