Volcano and Octagon have partnered to assist Sony in creating an entertaining and fun-filled football tournament called FevaPitch. The tournament is based on five-a-side rules and promises to be action all-the-way as 32 amateur teams per region display their skills on the pitch.
To add glamour to the events, Sony has selected ex-Bafana Bafana players to square up as the Sony All-Stars team against TV celebrities and the media. Some of the players include Neil Tovey, Mark Fish, Doctor Khumalo, Mark Williams and many more. Stars from Isidingo and Generations as well as journalists from all the major radio and TV stations will play against the Sony All-Stars team and it promises to be full of action for the spectators.
“Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and is played in over 200 countries where Sony does business,” says Andrew Fraser, Senior Manager, Brand Management at Sony SA. “FevaPitch is the start of the local activation for Sony and will be an annual event in the lead up to 2010 FIFA World CupTM of which Sony is an Official Global Partner. As an entertainment company it is therefore evident that FevaPitch targets the ‘fun' side of the sport where everyone can get involved and join a tournament that promises excitement to the players as well as the spectators.”
Apart from the action on the pitch, there will be lots of entertainment for young and old, ranging from goal shooting and PlayStation® games to live artists and Sony product displays. The live artists include DJ Sbu, Chippa and Malaika.
FevaPitch kicks off in Gauteng at Southgate Mall on 22/23 September and then moves to Camps Bay the following weekend. The Durban leg of the tournament takes place on 24/25 November to add excitement to the 2010 Preliminary Draw and the finals will be played on 27/28 November in Nelson Mandela Square, which coincide with the SoccerEx exhibition.
