Who's your Cupface?

The coffee cup is no stranger to creativity. For years it has faithfully served as the vessel housing the fuel that ignites our creative juices. Today, the coffee cup has assumed a new role as a creative ambassador and this time it's not inside, it's on top.

Coffee Cup Face Art began in the States and has evolved into an expressionistic movement that has taken coffee lovers by storm. The movement has begun in South Africa with the 'Who's your Cupface?' campaign launched by coffee media specialists Tag 8 and Virgin Active. The campaign has been activated at major universities around the country, using posters and word-of-mouth marketing from HaveYouHeard, and encourages young, creative minds to engage in the cup character casting call via social networking site, Facebook.

Students receive their Cupface canvas when purchasing a take-away coffee at one of the participating university canteens. The Cupface character is drawn on the cup and a photo is taken and uploaded on facebook.com/cupface where the budding artist's friends can 'like' their work of art. Those Cupfaces that receive the most support in the form of 'like's' are eligible for a host of prizes that include Virgin Active gym memberships, iPod shuffles and adidas vouchers.
