The commercial, which recently got a Saturday Star orchid award, is set in a studio where Kobus Wiese and Naas Botha are presenting a familiar looking sports show. While Kobus is talking, Naas sneaks a bite of a KFC Zinger Burger, the box of which can be seen peeking out from behind his laptop. Much to Kobus' shock and bemusement, Naas suddenly starts talking in an Indian accent brought on by the spices in the Zinger burger.
"What a grrreat experience ...rrrrright!" says director, Clive Will.
The commercial was produced with most of the team trying to suppress hoots of laughter. The process included Naas working closely with voice coaches and advisors to get the Indian accent right. But as luck would have it, after many hours of practicing to perfect the accent, a sick Naas arrived on the day of the shoot with no voice.
The Frieze Films team rose to the challenge and did a post-sync with the voice of comedian, Kevin Perkins' Mike Naiker persona.
"Despite certain gremlins in the works, it was a fun shoot and the client was extremely happy with the end result." comments Will.
