In the first commercial, we see the VW rally team kitted out in their racing gear at a rather secluded, dry and dusty location. The navigator is giving precise instructions to the driver for what we assume is how to get to their next destination - only to reveal the driver carefully placing the BP branding sticker onto the rally car under the watchful eye of the navigator. The second commercial highlights the attention to detail as the team open their tog bags and take out their newly branded clothing items. The navigator smugly points out that the small boxer shorts must be for the driver. The driver, a little confused, looks on as the navigator hurriedly gets dressed.
According to Fialkov: "The greatest challenge in directing these commercials was that they are a continuation of an existing campaign and had to be in keeping with the original idea - my challenge was to give them an edge that was uniquely mine."
Fialkov, although not a newcomer to directing commercials, has a strong background in shooting fashion. He is also adept in the areas of lighting and working as a Director of Photography (DOP) which he did in addition to directing the BP commercials.
Chris Gotz, Creative Director for Ogilvy, Cape Town adds: "It was a pleasure to work with Jason. His experience as a DOP has given him a good eye, backed up with solid filming knowledge. He was very effective when dealing with the actors in the commercial and I don't think that his style is limited to any particular area - Jason is extremely talented."
