The institution had the benefit of the TuksMobi platform for cashless payments, but this architecture has now been upgraded to the Eduxtras Card as provided and managed by Eduloan.
Existing TuksMobi users' funds can be transferred into their bank account within three working days, but students can also elect to have their balances instantly and securely transferred to an Eduxtras card.
Users will need to visit the Help Desk at the in the Student Centre (Piazza) on the Hatfield Campus to complete an upgrade form and submit it to the TuksMobi helpdesk. They will receive a new Eduxtras card from the Eduloan helpdesk which can be used immediately. The entire process takes less than five minutes.
Once upgraded, students will receive a unique account number which can be used as a reference for future fund deposits. This will ensure that funds will always be correctly allocated to the right account. Funds received via deposit can be used 24 hours after they have been loaded on the card.
The Eduxtras system has more features and is accepted by a number of retailers countrywide. This is in line with the University's strategy for a cashless campus. Eduxtras may be used when making purchases on Tuks campuses. Students do not have to carry cash, or wait in ATM queues. In addition, the card does not have any transactional costs attached to it. It is a free service!
The card can be used to purchase anything that is assigned to a student allowance category, including accommodation, food, books, or stationery. As already stated, the use of the card is not restricted to on-campus merchants, and other partners to the card offer services to students and has been vetted and approved by Eduloan and the University as well.
"Eduloan understands student needs," says Michelle Branco, Eduloan's chief commercial and marketing officer. "We've developed the Eduxtras card to help them budget and manage their cash, empowering them to further their education without financial woes."
