Thus, it was no surprise when the bank decided to once again select The Selwyn Segal Home for the Handicapped as the charity of choice for the 2009 Sasfin Bank Sports Quiz.

The Sasfin Bank Sports Quiz is an event held annually involving roughly 50 teams of 10 members each who participate in the answering of sports questions via true or false, visuals or multiple choice options. The spirited evening is enjoyed by all, and is often spoken about long after the event draws to a close. The evening is completed with an auction, conducted by event organisers, MSCSPORTS. Every year, the auction has played a large part in the raising of funds for the charity, and this year was no exception. The auction saw several sporting pieces sold, with the total net profit of over R300 000.

The growth of the sports quiz over the years has been significant, both in terms of the money raised, as well as the attendance. In 2007, R360 000 was raised, including a generous donation of R100 000 from one of the participating companies. 2008 was another hugely successful event, with over R500 000 being raised.

In addition to the R300 000 plus raised from the auction at this years event, a generous donation of R212 000 was made, thus making the total amount donated R535 653.

Marketing Manager of Sasfin Bank, Lauren Aaron is extremely grateful to all those involved in this event,

“Every year the event gets bigger and better, with the generous donations continuing to flow in. As sponsors of this event, we are extremely proud to be associated with such a positive event in which we can assist in making the lives of those less fortunate more pleasant.”
