Decorex Cape Town was recently held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), marking its twelfth anniversary. The infrastructure for this multi-award-winning show was supplied by Oasys Innovations.
Says Graham Jeffery, Chief Operating Officer for Oasys Exhibitions Cape Town: "The Western Cape is definitely the vanguard of the design industry. We have a unique ability to combine local elements with a global edge, which is why Decorex Cape Town is such a popular show."
The theme for this year's exhibition was a 'breath of fresh air', focusing on softness and beauty in décor design. The show featured new trends such as frugal chic, thrift décor, re-cycling and DIY and introduced African inspiration in design trends. The event also continued the 'green' theme, which was introduced in 2009, with products from natural sources that were woven, plaited and knitted from materials such as wood, raffia, cork, leather and feathers in designs.
Says Jeffery: "We supplied the shell scheme for the exhibition, laid 6780m2 of carpeting and also supplied the electrical infrastructure."
"Decorex Cape Town attracted 35 220 visitors, showing 10% growth this year. Consumers have continued their shopping habits from the recent recession and tend to shop around more for products that delight. They also expect the same value for less. For this reason the show offered consumers expert advice, high quality products and special show prices. 'Green' living is on everyone's minds and the show featured not only various 'green' products, but also tips on how to live a 'greener' life and showed visitors how to use space effectively, for an open and 'fresh' approach to living," says Melanie Robinson, Portfolio Director of Decorex SA.
Fantasy was another theme that was evident throughout the show. Combinations of soft and bright colours were seen in many of the stand designs, which expressed a fairytale world, with peacocks, puffins and weaver birds in many designs.
Concludes Jeffery: "The experiences Oasys have gained in building the SA Pavilion at the 2010 World Expo Shanghai has given us immense insight which we applied to the project management of this exhibition. The Decorex Cape Town show was a success on all accounts, with positive feedback from many visitors."
