Founded in 2001, the Starfish Greathearts Foundation supports approximately 30 000 orphaned children through non-governmental and community-based organisations. Oasys Innovations recently assisted Starfish in creating more awareness for their ‘Dinner of Hope' campaign through the Durban Good Food and Wine Show.
Starfish encourages people across the globe to host their own ‘Dinner of Hope' in aid of the foundation. This campaign has grown considerably and the foundation decided to set up a stand at the Good Food and Wine Show in Durban to raise further awareness about Dinners of Hope. Starfish will also display information and sell merchandise at the Johannesburg Good Food and Wine show later this year. Says Karen Loxton, marketing manager at Starfish Greathearts Foundation, “We were delighted with the amount of people who came to the show and who were exposed to Starfish as a charity of choice. People visiting our stand were greeted by one of our volunteers who told them more about what the foundation does and how they can use their love for good food and wine to help children in our country by hosting a Dinner of Hope”.
Furthermore, merchandise such as Starfish T-shirts, bracelets, button badges and jelly bangles were sold at the Starfish stand, which meant additional funds could be generated while introducing the charity to a larger audience.
Oasys Innovations offered assistance by donating and building the Starfish stand at the Durban Good Food and Wine Show. The company will also be providing a stand for the Johannesburg Good Food and Wine Show taking place later this year. Says Brian Prowling, chief operating officer of Oasys Durban, “Oasys Innovations supplied shell scheme, electrical infrastructure and furniture at the show. We made this donation because we understand and realise the importance of businesses making an active contribution towards local charities.”
Continues Loxton, “Without the generous support of local businesses such as Oasys Innovations our charity would not be able to assist the many South African children in need."
