Johannesburg design agency, Blue Apple, has received a level 2 BBBEE score for the second consecutive year. This means clients can again claim R1,25 towards their BBBEE procurement for every R1 they spend with Blue Apple.
The score was achieved by focusing on enterprise development, social upliftment, employment equity, staff training and procurement of suppliers with high BBBEE scores. "Our rating is good news for our clients, but we also feel that this measurement is a great way of making sure that empowerment happens across the board. It's money well spent," comments Blue Apple's Gerry Greyling.
In terms of social upliftment, the agency has been working with Kelokitso High School in Soweto for four years. The school has managed to achieve an excellent pass rate despite few resources. "In fact, there was no library at the school," says Greyling. "A friend of the agency alerted us to the issues this school was facing and that she was converting an old unused classroom into a library." The school has since appointed a librarian and, with the help of corporate funding, has managed to buy books to provide the learners with a fully-functional library.
