Impilo is a place of safety for children in need of care from birth to 3 years. They are cared for in a homely environment in the transitional period before being returned to their parents or extended family or placed in an adoptive or foster home. The majority of children have been abandoned, orphaned or born to HIV positive parents. All children are from previously disadvantaged communities.We arrived at the home with lots of special Easter treats as well as items from their wish list such as formula, nappies, toiletries, blankets, cribs, food and more.
Our arrival was warmly welcomed by two adorable 3 year olds, Thabo* and Ntombi* who showed us around their home. We were immediately impressed by the warmth and love in the home and it was wonderful to see everyone so well taken care of and happy.
Our two little guides proudly walked us into their room where their friends were having a morning nap so we quietly ushered them out of the room to ensure the toddlers were not disturbed!
The babies in the nursery were a different story and they welcomed the opportunity to be picked up and cuddled by us all. Precious and Liane were quite content to stay inside the nursery cuddling the babies while Janyce and Kim went to play with Thabo* and Ntombi* in the toy room.
These two decided Kim's camera was much more fun than their own toys and promptly posed and showed off in front of the camera while giggling along with the staff members.
The Impilo home for abandoned babies is an organisation that should be very proud of the work they are doing and the care and effort they put into the lives of these abandoned children. We had the most wonderful morning and will certainly be back!
