Jackal Berry MTB Challenge 2012

What started off as an informal challenge around a braai amongst friends has turned into an annual two-day, 253km mountain trail bike ride. This year's Jackal Berry MTB Challenge which hits the road on 29 November, is hoping to raise R20 000 for the Ubuhle Day Care and Development Centre in Bronkhorstspruit.

In 2011, a group of businessmen set off on their mountain bikes, from Benoni to Machadodorp, not knowing that this would become an annual fundraising initiative. Riders and sponsors, 4PL Group, BMi Research and Networks Online; have decided that this year they will raise individual sponsorship per kilometer ridden, all of which will be donated to Ubuhle.

Ubuhle was founded in 2008 by a group of local volunteers, with the aim of helping orphans and vulnerable children in farming communities in the Bronkhorstspruit Metsweding District. Ubuhle now provides a pre-school facility and an English primary school up to level 3, after-school care, workshops and courses for adults, as well as some aid to develop new income sources of to the 200 black families living in the rural area.

BMi Research and 4PL Group have been involved with Ubuhle for a number of years and are continually striving to improve conditions at the center. "Knowing that families will benefit from us simply doing what we enjoy, will make every uphill climb of our 253km journey seem that much easier," says Gareth Pearson CEO of BMi Research.

Anyone interested in sponsoring the riders can contact Anzel Venter at moc.lpruof@retneva or 087 943 6450.
