Ready. Set. Success! takes centre stage with SA youth

According to the 2015 Sunday Times Generation Next survey, only 42% of teens feel inspired at school. On Saturday, 24 October, youth market specialists, HDI Youth Marketeers, and youth inspirational platform, Pride Factor, launched Ready. Set. Success! at the Sandton Convention Centre. Ready. Set. Success! is a platform jointly created to solve this real need for youth inspiration, encouraging SA youth to stay motivated, especially during this time of the year.

Adapting the proven methods developed by the world's leading motivational speakers to address learners in Grades 8-12. The Ready. Set. Success! workshops are presented by the country's most aspirational role-models like TV star and fitness expert, Lushwil Rossouw, motivational speaker, Monde Sithole, TV presenters, Katlego Maboe and Danilo Acquisto, and more who are passionate about passing on their experience to the next generation.

The learners were given insights into the careers and lifestyles of aspirational role models; including youth motivational speaker and Pride Factor CEO, Dene Botha, renowned television presenter and model, Maps Maponyane, and Art Director and Illustrator, Lazi Mathebula.

"We're very excited about the roll-out of the Ready. Set. Success! platform and the collaboration with HDI Youth Marketeers, who are undoubtedly the leaders in their field," said Pride Factor MD, Dene Botha. "The youngsters of today are the most valuable resource we've got and we need to assist them in every way possible."

It starts with platforms like this where young people can be freely inspired to find a direction that they are passionate about, become the best they possibly can at it, and then look for opportunities that allow them to turn it into their career.

The first of two inspiration workshops were held in Cape Town earlier in October, with more than 300 teenagers in attendance at Groote Schuur High School, and the second in Johannesburg. "Over the last 18 years, HDI has been immersed in the youth space and we've seen how a few inspiring words of encouragement and motivation really goes a long way," said Jason Levin, Managing Director at HDI Youth Marketeers.

"It was so rewarding having the opportunity to talk to the kids. They seemed really interested and were very engaging," said Maps Maponyane in an interview. He further mentioned that young people need to constantly be reminded that they are the future generation and that we rely on their brains and efforts to take South Africa forward.

The Ready. Set. Success! platform will be kicking off in 2016, which will allow marketers to connect with over 75,000 teens in Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal with an educational roadshow at 150 schools. All content at the schools will be aligned to the curriculum and will include a carefully scripted roadshow to help the youth to own their future.

Learners will be invited to attend one of five large workshops, including celebrity guest speakers and entrepreneurs. The workshops will reach over 2,500 youth, which are designed to provide practical tips and real-life examples on successful entrepreneurship.

"Young people shouldn't be afraid to fail, they should always be able to create value for themselves by being themselves and continue learning," added Lazi Mathebula during his exclusive interview with Dene Botha. He added that they should always aim to do great work because, ultimately, their efforts will determine how far they will go in life - as he compared his past experiences with his achievements today.
