The venue is constructed completely out of enormous blocks of ice and boasts a bar, complete with glasses, chairs, tables and slide with
everything made out of ice including the décor which consists of amazing ice sculptures carved by the creator of the venue and owner of Thor Ice, James Cussen.
The uniquely "cool" venue opened its doors on 1st and 2nd November at a glittering launch put together by Thor Ice and Ecko PR. Technical supplier, Gearhouse SA highlighted the VIP entrance to the "hot bar" marquee using a half moon truss structure and intelligent lighting for the entrance and Highend Systems and Martin fixtures to light up the marquee interior from all four angles. The exterior of the structure was lit with Studio Due City Colors ensuring that both the venue and the Thor Ice logo were visible from many angles across Cape Town.
Following a red carpet welcome to the new venue, invited guests were provided with ponchos to keep the frostbite at bay as they moved through the marquee to the subzero section at the rear for the polar experience.
Similar venues have opened around the world with ice lounges and ice bars being constructed in London, Sydney, Milan and Stockholm. The ice lounge is set to remain at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town for over five months. Throughout the African summer visitors will be able to "chill out "while sipping a cocktail at minus five degrees Celsius". So, if you haven't already seen this extraordinary venue on home turf, make sure you don't miss this opportunity.
