Cadbury Gorilla drums up support for the Bokke

Is the Cadbury Gorilla a lucky talisman for the Boks?
Cadbury Dairy Milk, South Africa's best-loved chocolate brand, joined fans across the country this weekend in support of the Bokke as they beat the All Blacks 28 - 19 in Bloemfontein for the first time.

To demonstrate its support of the national rugby team, the brand cleverly adapted its award-winning “Gorilla” TV commercial to reveal the words “Go Bokke” on the drum kit featured in the ad. The message of support was shown towards the end of the commercial when the Gorilla plays the famous Phil Collins drum solo which forms the soundtrack of the ad.

The revised film was screened shortly before the game on Saturday 25 July, and will be aired during every Tri-Nations game that features the South African team until the end of August 2009.

“South Africa has supported the Cadbury Dairy Milk brand for years, making us their number one choice when it comes to chocolate. We felt that it was time to return the favour,” explains Geoff Whyte, Group Marketing Director, Cadbury South Africa.

“Besides, what rugby team wouldn't benefit from the backing of an enormous (and enormously talented!) Gorilla?” It looks like the Cadbury Gorilla was indeed a great talisman for the Bokke on Saturday.
