Spring cleaning for your email marketing

The first of September marks the official beginning of spring, which really is a time for renewal, cleaning up and getting rid of things you don't need. Of course, this doesn't have to be just about your home. In fact, it's the perfect time to refresh your marketing campaigns as well.
This year, why not approach your email marketing the same way you would you home?
  • Give your home a good clean - This time of year, many people open the windows, air out their rooms and get out their dusters and vacuum cleaners for a thorough cleaning. Why not do the same - metaphorically speaking - for your database?

It's really nice to have a big database, and very impressive to be able to say you have 6 000 email addresses that you can market to. However, if only 1 000 people actually interact with you, then those are the ones you should focus on. You don't have to get rid of the rest of your database, but it is a good idea to really nurture relationships with people who are interested in your company. Remember, it's much better to have 10 good leads that are likely to result in profit instead of many cold leads that aren't actively engaging with you.

  • Bring in something fresh - Spring is probably the best time of year to try something new in both your home and your email marketing strategy. While hanging new curtains or arranging some fresh flowers can revitalise a room, your email campaigns may need a bit of re-strategising in order to keep people interested.

It could be as simple as giving your newsletter design some spring flair. A new look will often catch the eye of casual observers and encourage them to actively engage with you. On the other hand, you could try running a competition to drum up some interest in your company. Linking the prize to something related to warmer weather will definitely entice people who are tired of the cold weather of the previous months.

Even though the winter chill hasn't left us completely, this time of year is always good for trying something different with your email marketing strategy.
