Product design consultancy, Ideso, a corporate member of The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), would like to wish everyone a happy World Industrial Design Day.
World Industrial Design Day (WIDD) is observed annually on 29 June in recognition of the profession of industrial design. First declared in 2007 as an Icsid initiative, this year will mark the council's 55th anniversary. The day aims to promote awareness of the profession of industrial design, highlighting the contribution designers and academics have made to the discipline and facilitating collaborations that help improve economic, social, cultural and environmental quality of life throughout the world.
Ideso will be involved today through their participation at the official World Design Capital 2014 signing ceremony, where the executive mayor of the City of Cape Town, Alderman Patricia de Lille and Icsid president, Soon-in Lee, will sign the host city agreement for 2014.
During the weekend, Ideso's designers will also be involved in helping local communities solve pressing social problems through their participation in Cape Town's first Design Storm session. Creative Cape Town, in collaboration with the Cape Town Design Network (CTDN) and in partnership with community-based organisations have organised this event to provide a platform for designers to be involved with and help their surrounding communities through design.
