Matt matriculated from Sandown High, in Johannesburg, in 1997 prior to enrolling at the 5th Dimension College for Visual Art. It was here where he received a Diploma in graphic design in 2000, and proudly graduated in the top two of his class. A further college accolade for Matt was being awarded the "Outstanding Achievement" trophy.
Fresh out of college Matt started his first business with a friend, and two years later they joined forces with a third designer in an attempt to grow the business. The company listed a number of accolades including winning the pitch to design the in-flight menus for SAA. A successful relationship with the airline would later lead to Matt securing the design work of the in-flight entertainment magazines in 2004 when he founded Zero Degrees Advertising. The young agency's clients included The Tourism Grading Council, Prominent Paints, Subaru, Decorex, and SAA. Due to the unfortunate illness of his partner, Matt made the difficult decision to close his business and enter the market as an employee, leading to his joining MGM in 2008. It became apparent soon thereafter that it was an exceptional fit, when Matt's work contributed to a number of industry wins. To date Matt's creative contribution has secured him eighth place in the Onesmallseed Adobe Design competition; twice a Loerie finalist; a Silver Assegai, and a very prestigious Gold Assegai award.
On the rebrand of MGM to human.kind Matt has displayed his support for the move toward a 'greener' environment in many ways, including completing a carbon literacy course that covered all aspects of the international regulations regarding a business' carbon footprint. Matt's commitment to the cause was sealed when he realised the longevity of the damage caused by the 1950's industrial revolution. Matt sees the rebrand as an opportunity to be a part of something meaningful in his workplace. He believes human.kind is an environment that attracts creative people with integrity who are willing to stand up for something bigger than only the advertising tasks at hand. Matt and his colleagues are part of the generation who are committed to acting with purpose to ensure that the damage to our planet is curtailed.
Outside the human.kind doors, Matt is a family man who cherishes time with his wife, family, friends, and his three dogs. This gadget guy is known about town for his unusual sense of humour, his love of socialising, sport, movies and beer. He best describes himself as an 'introverted extrovert', loyal, funny, and someone who prides himself on being competitive. Matt also enjoys a good board game and is regularly cheered and booed when behind the karaoke microphone.
