MXit CEO Alan Knott-Craig Jr. |
Knott-Craig Jr. will also discuss Mxit's new and improved user interface and provide a glimpse of future innovations in the pipeline.
Mxit, an instant messaging service developed in Stellenbosch in 2003, is now Africa's biggest mobile social network with over 10 million active subscribers. Since its inception Mxit has been a technological pioneer in Africa, leading the way on multiple platforms on a continent largely dependent on mobile. While Twitter sends around 8 billion messages a month, Mxit does a mammoth 22 billion messages a month.
After a stint heading internet service provider iBurst, Knott-Craig Jr. launched World Of Avatar, an investment company primarily focused on mobile technology. Alan Knott-Craig Jr. became the CEO of Mxit after World Of Avatar acquired the service in September last year.
Knott-Craig Jr. shared recently in an exclusive interview with Heavy Chef that Mxit will "enable millions of young Africans to become micro-entrepreneurs overnight".
In addition, Knott-Craig Jr. said that Mxit plans to offer insight into mobile usage: "One of the most interesting projects is Pondering Panda. Surveys and voting via social media, especially targeted at the youth, has the potential for revolutionising our understanding of what most people think."
