For the second year in a row, and making Loeries history in the process, Wicked Pixels took home Gold for Craft in the TV/Cinema category, which is their core business. But the Gold for MTN ‘Stickies' was not their only Gold Loerie for Craft either; another Gold was awarded for their stunning, design intensive animation for the interactive FoxP2 CD Rom, done in conjunction with Gloo Digital. They also received two Silver Loeries (The Jupiter Drawing Room – Musica; Gloo – FoxP2) and two Bronze Loeries (The Jupiter Drawing Room – Sanlam, and MetropolitianRepublic – MTN). Unfortunately an internal slip-up also saw their beautiful motion graphic sequences for the Design Indaba not being entered, which would more than likely have been a winner too.
“But we will happily settle for the 6 Loeries,” jokes Craig Wessels of Wicked Pixels. Then on a more serious note he adds, “Nothing would be possible without great clients who put a tremendous amount of faith and trust in us; and in turn we consistently deliver award winning work. I think that's a healthy relationship! We are humbled by and grateful for the opportunities and support that come our way, so a real big thanks to all our clients. And congratulations to all the other winners too.”
The highest accolade for any production company is to be rewarded for Craft. It's different to having been involved in a commercial that wins the agency an award for concept or media. A Craft award is a testament to the talents of the actual artists or the company. Andrew Shaw, Creative Director at Wicked sums it up: “We always put in maximum effort and are really passionate about our work, that's why this means so much to us. It shows that, for two years running now, the cream of our ad industry has judged Wicked Pixels as being number 1 when it comes to animation, which is really cool because we love advertising.”
