There is a rumour that the vote in the Craft Animation category was rigged. Wicked's response: "Damn right it was!"
Asked to explain, Wicked says that the creation of the animated music notes for the Musica, 'Metallica' commercial involved a process called rigging. This is where the 3D models of the music notes are given an internal 'skeleton' - see the yellow in FIG 1. It is this skeleton which is then animated to produce the character's movement.
Each character, of which there were about 50, was individually animated to build the entertaining scenes. It's no wonder that the judges decided to vote for the commercial with the best rigging (not to mention animation directing, animation, motion graphics and sequence design).
And Wicked's final comments? "When it comes to our work, the vote will always be rigged!"
