With the announcement of the 2010 Huisgenoot Tempo Awards Afrikaans music lovers have again recognised their leading stars.
The awards function took place at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, with comedian Alvin Bruinders and ever-chic media presenter Elana Afrika as MCs.
Only albums and music videos that were on the market between 1 May 2009 and 30 April 2010 were considered for the awards.
The winners of this year's Huisgenoot Liedjieskryfkompetisie were also announced at the function. This competition aims to uncover and nurture new Afrikaans songwriting talent.
"The unique sound of Afrikaans music and its development is close to Huisgenoot's heart," said editor Esmaré Weideman. "It speaks to the hearts and souls of hundreds of thousands of people countrywide - whether they enjoy dancing to it or just listening to it. Huisgenoot's involvement with the growth of Afrikaans music shows how strongly we feel about the development of local talent."
She continued: "This year's Huisgenoot Tempo entries and the newcomers who are in the spotlight thanks to our Liedjieskryfkompetisie are a success story we're particularly proud of. Congratulations to our winners and finalists and thank you to our readers for your continued support."
The Tempo Awards will be broadcasted op 3 September at 19:30 on kykNet.
