Huisgenoot-Tempo's third issue on shelf

The third bumper issue of Huisgenoot-Tempo hits magazine shelves on 28 May. The glossy quarterly, published under the Huisgenoot banner, focuses on the Afrikaans music industry and with record sales of its first two issues has quickly made its mark.
The magazine, with ever-popular Kurt Darren on the latest cover, is packed with articles, in-depth interviews with Afrikaans artists and great pictures. And as a bonus you receive five free CDs to download.

Huisgenoot-Tempo editor Esmaré Weideman is thrilled with the new issue. "This Huisgenoot-Tempo, our third, is packed with articles and photographs featuring South Africa's top music stars," she says. "You'll find everything from a cover story on Kurt Darren, reigning king of Afrikaans music, to in-depth articles on the gospel industry and a bunch of rock bands that all originated in Bellville. If you're a fan of Afrikaans music don't miss Tempo."

The Tempo team crossed the country to interview popular artists. We chatted to the trio Broers in their studio and kitchen and discovered Christo, Cobus and Nic Stevens are talented not only at playing music but can cook too. We visited Lianie May on the farm, Izak Davel in Lady Grey and Jak de Priester in his beloved Pretoria. Stef Bos told us about his love for South Africa and the new book he has tackled with a South African artist.

Then there's an article about several hot bands that hail from Bellville. Is it something in the water or the air? We take a look at this Bellville phenomenon and photograph the guys together in a popular park in the neighbourhood where they grew up.

We note a few milestones in this issue: the doyenne and diva of Afrikaans cabaret, Amanda Strydom, looks back on her 30 years in the music industry and shares wonderful photographs. And we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Voƫlvry music tour with a phenomenal article on the revolutionary movement that changed the face and sound of Afrikaans music. The surviving members share exclusive anecdotes and reminiscence about their pioneering cross-country trek.

In short, a wonderful medley of music, music and more music.
