EXP South Africa was voted the Specialist Agency of the Year for the second consecutive year, at the Financial Mail 2012 AdFocus Awards held in Johannesburg on 28 November.
According to the Financial Mail Annual, EXP's award is attributed to the company's ability to have grown its business by moving beyond traditional boundaries. The agency was also recognised for its organic growth strategy which saw further investments by long-standing clients help it increase revenue by 31,5%. This after it had already grown its revenue by the 32 during the previous year.
"We are incredibly proud of being named Specialist Agency of the Year for the second consecutive year. Firstly, even though we were shortlisted with three other agencies again this year, we had very little expectation of winning it again. Also, this being such a diverse category that encompasses a number of disciplines, it is in fact really tough to stand out in this space. So when our name was called, it came as a pleasant surprise. The enormity of winning it again is both exciting and humbling," said EXP SA Chief Executive Officer, Sandile Ndzekeli.
Having finally broken the mould of being boxed as a Sports Agency was clearly a key factor for the judges and reinforcement for EXP, who have been at odds to break that stereotype for a while.
"Quite honestly, a big part of this award is dedicated to our clients, as we have them to thank for entrusting us with work in new spaces. Three years ago 90% of our business came from sponsorships. But in recent years we've made a concerted effort to drive our other business offerings in the brand activation, eventing and PR spaces with many of our existing clients. This has led to enormous growth across these below-the-line disciplines. Of course this award is also dedicated to our incredible bunch of people at EXP SA, who all played a contributing role to the company's success in the past year," continued Ndzekeli.
In 2012 EXP adopted a philosophy of "CANDOISM" (having a "can-do" attitude towards all work and clients) which clearly contributed to taking the business to a new level.
"The interesting thing about winning awards is that it forces you to work even harder. The old saying that it's harder to remain at the top than to get there, rings true. But we love a challenge. It keeps us on our toes, forces us to work harder and smarter as a business, to look after our clients better, while reminding ourselves daily to do it with humility and honesty," concluded Ndzekeli.
