Renowned South African author and media commentator, Arthur Goldstuck, will be doing his bit for the South African advertising, media and marketing industry by standing up and presenting ‘The lighter side of online trends' at Parker's Comedy and Jive in Monte Casino, Johannesburg at lunchtime on 17 March. The occasion is the cocktail party to wrap up the Annual General Meeting of the ABF, and the industry is invited!
Goldstuck heads World Wide Worx, a pioneer in the South African market in the use of the Internet as a tool for productivity. He developed the first South African benchmarks for website usability and strategy, and represented South Africa as a judge in the website category of the Cannes International Advertising Festival in France in 2002.
He is also author of a range of books dealing with issues as diverse as business on the Internet and urban legends in southern Africa, and is an award-winning IT journalist, having been honoured in three separate categories of the Telkom ICT Journalist of the Year awards from 2002 to 2004.
He is regarded as South Africa's leading expert on Internet and mobile technology trends and leads two major annual studies, namely SME Survey, which interviews 6000 decision-makers at SMMEs in South Africa every year, and the Mobility project, which includes a nationally representative survey of consumers, SMEs and corporations.
Joe Parker, South Africa's comedy legend, has generously donated his sought-after comedy revue lounge - Parker's Comedy and Jive - as the venue for the event. Parker's hosts top international and local comedy acts in a high quality, classic lounge-bar environment. Says Sharlene Vallance, ABF Executive Committee member: “The ABF always tries to host events in a light-hearted, entertaining spirit, and this year we have decided to host our annual cocktail party in the same way. Arthur will be giving his valuable insight into this critical sector of our industry in the spirit of the comedy venue.”
Giles Shepherd, ABF President, says this event is not only an opportunity for the industry to come together and celebrate the achievements of the fund over the past year, but also to thank and recognise those people who have given their time and effort to the organisation. “We'd like to see as many industry faces there as possible,” he says. “We're putting on a great show with drinks and snacks, and we'll make sure a fantastic time is had by all.”
There is no charge for the event, and invitations are open to people in the relevant industry sectors, but clearly space is limited, so tickets will be issued on a first-come-first-served basis. People wanting to attend can contact Sharlene on either 083 452 6191 or .
