Once again the event was a great success and R230 000 was generated. "We're overwhelmed by the generous involvement from our suppliers who took up the challenge and contributed to this wonderful cause by either purchasing four balls or donating prizes for the day," says Vital MD, George Grieve. "It's amazing how people opened their hearts to Hospice".
Butterfly House, situated in Fairyland, is the venue for the Drakenstein Palliative Hospice Day Care Programmes. The Hospice aims to provide services which will add to the quality of life of patients, their families (infected and affected), and others made vulnerable through neglect, abuse, malnutrition, extreme poverty and illness.
In October 2011 DPH cared for 365 patients in homes, 67 of the patients are children, 189 OVCs (orphans and vulnerable children - children whose parents are sick) and 180 community vulnerable children each month. This also includes 98 Cancer patients , 160 HIV and 107 with other chronic life threatening illnesses
Mr Marlo Laubscher, Chairman of the Hospice, said that the generous contribution would help to ensure that they would continue to provide free palliative care to patients and their families suffering from life-threatening illness in the Drakenstein district. "The Vital Health Foods team extends its thanks to the Paarl Boschenmeer Golf Club and everyone who contributed towards making the day such a success and we look forward to next year's event," commented MD Grieve.
