The impact of any CSI programme should never be under-estimated, and as the social needs of our country and population are substantial, it is a moral duty for businesses of any size to make a difference to society and the communities in which they operate. 2 Apr 2014 Read more >>

Long-term partnerships lead to growth and sustainability - Compex (Complete Exhibitions)Sustainability is defined as 'the ability to be sustained, supported, upheld, or confirmed.' This is a critical aspect in the business world as it leads to long-term benefits and growth. Complete Exhibitions believes in this concept and has, for the last number of years, been cultivating partnerships in the annual Insurance Institute of South Africa Conference and Exhibition. This affiliation has lead to the growth of the exhibition, not only in terms of the pure number of exhibitors, but also in the investment in terms of the quality of the exhibits on display. 12 Sep 2012 Read more >>

Women in the exhibition industry - Compex (Complete Exhibitions)It is true of many professions that some are male dominated whilst others are far better suited to the fairer folk, but there are some industries where dual-gender participation is incredibly advantageous. I am writing this in Cape Town at the CTICC - with natural light giving a full vista over the mountain - at the Ufi (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry)/Manch Communications "Open Seminar and Expo Summit in Africa" Conference. Looking around the audience, I wonder why there is comparatively poor support from South Africans (40%) at such an event being hosted on our door-step. Attendance to Internationally staged events of this nature are often prohibited by costs, but through EXSA's organisation of a 33% discount to this one, the full costs equated to less than the international flight to the next Ufi Conference in Europe, so I wonder again about the South Africa support. 20 Aug 2012 Read more >>

Greening - don't wait - initiate - Compex (Complete Exhibitions)Can we really afford to wait for Politicians to assess when it will be acceptable to implement corrective and meaningful actions in regards to environmental change? With elections approximately every four years, the current contractions in overall employment and job creation, and the world economies on a tightrope just above recession, it seems doubtful when significant Leader-led actions will emerge. 18 Apr 2012 Read more >>

Running the numbers - Compex (Complete Exhibitions)The use of figures is a game of smoke and mirrors, where numbers are not all that they are made out to be. Building a brand through exhibitions - Compex (Complete Exhibitions)The most important thing about getting an exhibition stand right is in the alignment of the stand design to the objectives of the exhibitor. The professional needs to understand and correctly interpret the brief into a tangible, practical, feasible design that can be built on budget, on specification and on time. The exhibitor's brand has often be built up over many years, but can be irreparably harmed in a matter of minutes. 24 Nov 2011 Read more >>

Confex: an alternative for improving ROI - Compex (Complete Exhibitions)No-one can afford to - or at least should not be allowed to - undertake any activity whose benefits are less than the resources utilised to undertake it. Obviously resources not only relate to financial, but should include time as well as lost opportunity 'costs', among a multitude of other factors. Organising an exhibition, participating in an exhibition, or commissioning a designer stand should be no different. 27 Sep 2011 Read more >>

'Riding the wave': stimulating growth - Compex (Complete Exhibitions)SMMEs are often perceived as being a more reliable reflection of economic growth. Because of their size, they tend to react quicker to market changes. At the end of June, Southern African respondents to the latest UFI barometer survey (June 2011) indicated that 52% expect their turnover to increase by more than 10% in the first six months of 2011 when compared with the first six months in 2010, increasing to 78% for the second half of 2011. Exhibition organisers are particularly buoyant in this regard with 86% indicating an increase in turn-over in the first six months this year. Yet this positive outlook is balanced with 75% indicating that the impact of the 'economic crisis' on the exhibition business is not yet over. With only 25% of South African respondents believing that it is over, it is not surprising to see that a significant 34% identified the state of the national/regional economy as the single most important issue to be addressed. 17 Aug 2011 Read more >>

Throughout the exhibition industry it can often be heard that the barriers to entry are too high. Firstly, it is very difficult to identify a focus area for a new exhibition, and secondly the expense of launching such a new exhibition is prohibitive. It is therefore extremely refreshing that after careful research and partner selection, the organisers identified a niche market need for Huntex which proved these two traditional positions are by no means insurmountable. 10 May 2011 Read more >>
