Will TV licences become a thing of the past? There are murmurings of a 1% increase in our taxes to make up the shortfall in the SABC's revenues but our taxes are already high, and there is no guarantee that every taxpayer owns a TV or radio - don't forget the licence covers radio as well. The public has until 7 December 2009 to submit written comments on the draft Public Service Broadcasting Bill [which is supposed to be available from www.doc.gov.za, not that we could find it yet, but thank you to the little bird who told us to try the Parliamentary Monitoring Group]. What do you think?

Rape of a nation-
It's interesting that the scrapping of a license means that the money will be drawn out of more people at a higher amount. Even out of people who don't even have a TV.

This is nothing short of a another scam by the ANC government to eliminate the middle class in favour of a leftist ideal that forces everyone to be the same (ie:poor and subservient to an all controlling government where human rights are a thing of the past). Posted on 2 Nov 2009 20:01
Enough now!
Bungling idiots-
I couldn't bring myself to tune into SABC, there is nothing to watch. Even the news is pathetic, and biased. This is another government rip-off.

VIVA Mnet, VIVA DSTV, SABC close down you are useless Posted on 3 Nov 2009 09:08

SABC dug its own Grave ,,,-
I think the chorus of Hannah Montannah song "Lets get Crazy" fits optimally to the notion of a 1% Increase to our already high Taxes in order to build up what the previous SABC board recklessly demolished into rubble through mismanagement.

Of course I added a few 'notes' of my own ...
SABC:
Let's get crazy
Get up and dance
The public will pay the price
So lets take a fat chance
Have a swing, do your thing and roll the dice...

The Public:
Let's get crazy,
Lets get MAD
kick up your heels and don't be sad
Don't miss out, time to SHOUT
Let's get crazy
Crazy MAD!

The public is having to pay the price for Mismanagement & misuse of funds aka Corruption. SABC dug its grave ... we shall shed a tear at the funeral, but we, the public SHALL NOT pay for the wake !

WTF
BAIL SABC OUT ?-
Why should we bail SABC out. If they did an amnesty with outstanding TV licences and asked everyone just to buy a new licence and the outstandings will be cleared, they would bring in millions. SARS achieved this with a lot of success. Every person that I know practically owes on outstandings. It does not make sense to keep trying to collect money that will never be paid. SABC 1%-
So the average couple/family struggling along earning R5000 pm each = R60 000 each per annum x 1% will pay R600 each per year in TV licence. That's R1200 for that household instead of the current R250 that they pay (supposedly). They must be bonkers asking for that. Ask for 0.1% and I just might agree. Bunch of twits that came up with that idea. I had to check the calendar to see it wasn't an April Fool. Posted on 4 Nov 2009 15:41

not impressed
More money for the corruption kitty-
Public broad casting is important. The problem is we are just donating more money for those who believe that corruption is more important than public broadcasting. We have had enough of crime and corruption and now they want to expand this (corruption) market. This goverment has yet to come up with something that is corruption free.Cut down on the fraud and corruption and use that money for TV funding and then I will say that that will be the 1st proactive thing govt. has ever done since coming into power which has been a total disaster up until now. Stop wasting R250 million per anum on chasing no payments too!-
Surely the number of licenses don't add up to that waste of money. Typical clueless thinking in parastatal organisations. The tax payer with foot the bill. As a tax payer I say stuff you!! Posted on 6 Nov 2009 11:33
