The City of Cape Town is the new destination for The Loerie Awards 2009, and the site earmarked for the awards ceremony is the Good Hope Centre in the East City Precinct. Apart from its historical importance, the precinct has also become a home to the creative industry in Cape Town, with many advertising, design and marketing companies already making their home there.

“The Good Hope Centre has been somewhat forgotten in Cape Town and we feel this is a perfect challenge for the Loeries. It's a fantastic building and an exciting opportunity to do something different - we're confident that it's going to rock!” enthuses Human on the new venue. “Of course we will be putting together a full weekend programme including transport to and from the awards as well as other functions and parties.”

What do you think of this choice of venue?

Will Good Hope Centre be a great venue for Loeries 2009?-
although Capetown is such a great city, thier weather never seems to amaze me. Although it will be an indoor event, i think the the weather will be a problem, especially when it rains all the time. Posted on 5 Dec 2008 14:37

There goes the neighborhood-
The beauty of Margate was the intimacy and privacy it allowed the advertising community. The event was condusive to safe mingling and also gauranteed interaction. The big city of CT will take away from this.

Not happy. (sample of one) Posted on 5 Dec 2008 16:32

There goes the neighborhood AND THE LOERIES!-
Does the committee realize how windy Woodstock (Where the Good Hope is) is??? YES Cape Town is beautiful and fun but the weather here is horrible during that time of the year, safety will be an issue, it is already one of the most dangerous places in the town! Posted on 10 Dec 2008 13:26

You must be joking!-
While most of my fellow Woodstock residents won't waste much time in convincing uninformed people like you that the Good Hope Centre is actually not in Woodstock (perhaps a stone's throw from Woodstock, but then so is Gardens and it's definately not in Gardens), we'd gladly take you on, on your ill founded statement that Woodstock is "already one of the most dangerous areas in town." Come to one of our CPF-feedback meetings and the stats will paint a different picture. Woodstock is a safe and wonderful area. Posted on 10 Dec 2008 16:17
cape town in winter?-
Isn't Good Hope just a name the advertising industry thinks will help inspire, better, a stagnating (creative?) industry? Well its going to be cold, wet, windy putting on ice the aspirants. I don't think the committee could have done worse. Well done. At the very least i can walk home. Posted on 9 Dec 2008 10:43
CREDIT CRUNCH-
I honestly thought that the Loeries would go back to a more accessible to the majority venue such as Sun City. Considering the decline in advertising investment and the increasing number of agencies either retrenching or thinking about retrenching, I am very surprised that Andrew Human and his team think that agencies in JHB and Durbs will be able to fly their people to CT and put them up for the weekend. Times are tough. Posted on 10 Dec 2008 08:09

Worst Idea Ever-
Hopefully they read all the posts attached to the announcement and realise how they're ruining our lives.

Sucks! Posted on 10 Dec 2008 12:25

Why not?-
What's the fuss all about? This is just a storm in a tea cup, period. Posted on 11 Dec 2008 11:02

bad decision-
what was so fabulous about margate and sun city was the intimacy of the locations. everyone in one place and away from home. how awfully boring for the capetonians to have to go home after a night that wont be so wild because we will all have to drive!
yes it is about the awards and the work but its about all of the advertising community gathered in one place for a great party as well!
hopefully it will be a once off! Posted on 11 Dec 2008 12:09

Ulterior Motives-
it would seem "the creative industry in Cape Town" is creating another source of income for themselves. Posted on 11 Dec 2008 13:35

Bring the Loeries home to the Mothership...-
The Goodhope Centre the Mothership of the Mother City, for an extra-terrestrial experience where anything is possible. If anybody thinks the Goodhope Centre is a boring venue they have no imagination...

We come in peace to the Mothership....-
Isn't this about supporting innovation and creativity? What better place to start than one that is mobilising and utilising all the creative talent available to reinvent itself and become established as a creative centre - come on, please give this some support and stop all this very insular moaning and groaning - it is time you all got out more! what about newtown - follow fashionweek 2009-
I was heavily impressed with the venue for fashionweek 2009 - the forum | turbine hall.

its completely different, stunning, huge space, well run!
Give urban renewal a chance!

People want more industrial art - something to inspire and not just a building. Posted on 21 Apr 2009 09:40
