The SABC has been accused of ignoring the ANC gatherings in favour of Shikota, a new splinter group recently established by the ruling party's dissidents, according to yesterday's (Sunday, 2 November 2008) edition of The Sunday Independent. See today's newswatch for more.

Wake up and smell the roses-
It is about time that the ruling party gets what it deserves. They have been enjoying too much coverage from the SABC, now it is show time! Get the taste of your own medicine... Posted on 3 Nov 2008 12:33

Black intellectuals take back your country-
Not only a taste of their own medicine, the governing party has much to account for after more than a decade of sitting on its laurels, nurturing fat cats through false BEE schemes, stealing major moolah from tax payers for Jacob Zuma's long and languid court trials, paying incompetent "CEOs" (ESKOM/SAA) big bucks for sitting on their bottoms and fattening their bank accounts with the money that you and me work so hard for every month. You know what? The ruling party, or movement as they prefer to call themselves doesn't know the first thing about governing a country, everyday I hear such and such a person is in this position, pathetic Directors are exposed on investigative journalism TV shows such as Carte Blanche and Special Assignment for their total incompetence and absolute mediocrity. The question that should be on every South African's mind should be: "What do their resumes look like?" Hey Mr you are the CEO of the country's solo electricity service provider, but hey "show me your resume?" Let us see why my money lands up in your bank account, are you just incredibly fortunate, or who did you have to sleep with? Ooops.. we're talking about the boardroom here, you know sleep with as in make friends or liaise with or be linked to by blood.
I am sick of this. I remember the day my parents dragged themselves out of our township municipal home to vote for a better tomorrow... yet, I cannot help but see the disappointment on my 79 year old father's face everytime I see him in Alexandra Township, still in the same house, apparently they have been on the waiting list for RDP houses for the last ten years. Well, the RDP houses exist just on the periphery of Alexandra just across Juskei River, but hey... in the spirit of the African Renaissance we will let our Congolese brothers live in them.
There is so much that makes me furious about what we have become as a country, I am ashamed of what BEE AA/EE and ANC represent... what? corruption, nepotism, newsflash:most of the "civil servants" (though they behave like gods) in the police force/traffic services are illiterate. Wonder how they filled in those Z83 forms, hey while we are still on this note, wonder how gracious intelligent Molema was selected for his role.. hmmm.. lotto.. tata ma chance hey, well, it worked for him.pssst.. should have put in my entry too. But then again, I happen to have 2 degrees (not bought), I am black though (No! This is the era of the masses, not intellectuals) ok fine then let the people govern, or more precisely, let the uneducated, immoral, corrupt and incredibly experienced suits, traditional head barets (whatever they wear to parliament nowadays) to rule us to the ground. But wait, there is still hope. If you are concerned in any shape or form or even remotely for the future of this country and for generations to come, you will give the ANC a run for their money at the polls.

Bitter little twit-
You are a hopelessly pessimistic and arrogant little snob. It is your ilk that sit on the benches of parliament and steal from the same public they are supposed to serve. Methinks you are one of these ungrateful brats who are not willing to make their hands dirty because you have "two degrees". Why are you so bitter? Posted on 7 Nov 2008 10:47
Smothered voices-
Well... we live in a democracy,I voiced my opinions and so did you. Excellent, we are slowly learning what democracy is all about. The rest of your statements warrant no response. Posted on 9 Nov 2008 16:41

Unfortunatly the ruling party you are talking about is the one that is going to chang the board and put people they like. So whatever you say the power is still the ANC's Posted on 5 Dec 2008 14:49

biased compared who?-
SABC compared to who. all these radio stations are either for or against a certain group. try 702 for instance any normal listerner will tell you that they are very much biased to the DA and recently SHIKOTA. so they are all the same to me. Posted on 5 Nov 2008 13:07

In the Dark-
There is just so much trashing going on that even the radio and television presenters don't know which topic's to speak about, because after all it's all about the stats and at the end of it all asking the public to vote on the certain topic is another money spinner, because after all next week they're onto a whole new topic and the public HANGS!!!!!!!!! Struggle for power and dominace-
There are three areas of concern for me and media is top of the list. These are sectors in a highly contested arena which in essence are suppose to create a cohesive envirnment for the better society. These sectors ought to be scrutinised in the public domain,

Media
Judiciary
Politics
Analysts
Education.

To have a society that will be able to judge these sector when they cross the line it will require an understand of these sectors at least a basic understand of each one's ethics and mandate. Just my view Posted on 6 Nov 2008 11:41

SABC is state owned-
last week when we were watching a National Convention in Sandton something funny happened on SABC, they said due to coverage of the Convention Easter Mosaic will follow at 12:00 but they did not show us the Convention but the ANC rally in Jabulani Soweto. how can the SABC show us the ideas of one party(ANC) while there is a multiparty debate going on in the Convention. i think it is time for Etv to take over becasue the SABC is biased and cannot bite the hand that feed them. i think we also need another News channel which will focus on politics in SA- lastly i think Holomisa was also right to remove himself from the SABC panel since he was only talking to the presenter while Zuma is spreading the ideology. We want another private broadcaster, i think the Etv is also not helping us. the two broadcasters aims is not to inform the public but to prove silly political points-

Watcher of the Watchers
What is not state owned in 1 way or another-
The invidious extent of state control tentacles through every major listed company and numerous unlisted ones is terrifying. That is how they are able to get away with so much.

Prime example is JCI (Brett Kebble, John Statton, Jackie Selebi & Glenn Agliotti not to mention the ANCYL) is but one example. There are state-designated - or more accurately, ANC designated - appointees at or close to the tiller of Absa, FNB, Nedbank, Standard, ARM, Santam, Smollan Group, Massmart, Vodacom/Telkom, CellC, Discovery, Sappi, Mondi, AECI, Avusa, Independent (haha) Newspapers, Media24 ... the list goes on and on.

And where the ruling tripartite alliance does not have a member on the board or in a top executive management position, the state (ANC) machinery exercises direct and influential control over business organisations such as the Business Trust, Sacob, Nafcoc, the JSE, Business Against Crime, Busa and a battalion of other so-called private-public partnerships invariably as transparent as the coating on a Stealth bomber.

Oh, of course, business gains, but it gives too. That is the very essence of partnerships. It gives big time!

Take a look too at which businesses are constantly at loggerheads with Sars, Home Affairs, DTI, DEAT, Dept of Health, the justice cluster and you have the de facto list of the companies that won't dance to the ANC's tune.

Even the so-called "independents" are woven neatly and discretely into the state's web. Take eTV, part of Hosken Consolidated Investments, whose money is all trade union bucks through Cosatu, and headed by top ANC confidantes and luminaries John Copelyn and Marcel Golding. Little wonder Golding's plait is seen behind closed doors with Debora Patta, Patrick Conroy and his favourite squeeze, COO Bronwyn Keene-Young several times a week.

And the spin doctoring that goes on around all that is terrifying. Check out the latest Sars spin around Dave King - Pravin Gordhan and his heavies change their tune hourly.

So don't be too harsh on old Fawlty Towers. At least they are out in the open.

Recycling syndrome-
I think the bottom line is that our journalists are a bunch of lazy people. They would rather do ready-made stories as oppposed to being creative by initiating news instead of waiting for it to break. If you ask me, the National Convention did not warrant special coverage for the entire week. It was the usual grandstanding by recycled politicians, in the full knowledge that their spouses and mothers were watching. And our gullible "journalists" swallowed the bait stock, lock and barrel. Good Ridence to Bad News-
I just think we have heard enough lies, scandals and empty promises from the ANC for 14 years.

We need a fresh angle and ultimately a different voice that could steer the ship in a NEW direction.

This debacle is like music, you never know what you want to listen too, until you hear it.

I am for a new Voice and different leadership. Posted on 7 Nov 2008 11:31

Hello Slumber land resident-
You are in slumber land if you are hoping for new leadership. Tell me, what's new about Terror Lekota, Sam Shilowa or Mluleki George? When will people like you understand that these politicans were simply worried about losing all manner of privileges after next year's election and now want to ride on the backs of ignoramuses like yourself to get back into parliament? If they are so particular about Julius Malema pledging to "kill for Zuma", where were they when the late Peter Mokaba chanted "Kill the boer, the farmer"? You will be a fool to believe any of the things that come out of Terror's big mouth. Posted on 10 Nov 2008 10:37

The wall is crumbling-
Are South Africans admitting that this country has failed barely 15 years after attaining self-rule? This is what it amounts to; everywhere you look things are falling apart: Crime, violence, drunkeness, teenage pregnancies, corruption, poor matric pass rates are the order of the day. At least it took Zimbabwe longer to be where they are today. The SABC is just a true reflection of everything happening around us. They are not alone. Show me one black-run institution that has been spared the rot. You will be hard pressed to find any. Posted on 7 Nov 2008 12:02

Ofcourse...Sophie is not even a journo.-
With politicians like Sophie Mokoena masquerading as journalists what do you expect. first she campaigned for Thabo Mbeki, now she's with Shikota through and through. Since the time they lost credible journalists like Vuyo Mvoko, Kalay Maistry, Clayson Monyela, Njanji Chauke, J Pauwe, Moshoeshoe Monare and Karima Brown it was very clear that it could only go one way. Its irritating even watching their bulletins. The SABC is a big yawn!! Somebody get rid of Snuki Zikalala PLEASE!!!! Posted on 7 Nov 2008 15:16

Neither objective nor quality-
No self-respecting journalist would want to work for the SABC.Show me one thoroughly professional and objective SABC journalist and I will show you Adolf Hitler's grandmother. They are so compromised that you see it in the way they phrase their questions to guests. It is clear to the keen observer that SABC news men and women are told what to say at any given time. What a job! Most of them are just in it for the money. Government should do us a favour and scrap SABC licence fees pronto. Objectivity and qaulity are alien species at the state broadcaster. Is the SABC biased in its political media coverage?-
Certainly, SABC is biased on it's political coverage like it is on everything else.Suggestions, 1. we get a new board(impartial board) which will serve our people more than serving people's ego's and creating friendships.2. There's need for a new, news boss, Snuki should definately make way for someone who will bring about leadership and content structure at SABC.What a messed up organisation. Posted on 5 Dec 2008 14:44

SABC News needs a makeover-
The SABC is biased- that is obvious. It is the ANC's media branch.

Besides being biased, their reporters and anchors are appalling. The quality of stories displayed on prime time news is shocking. Reporters mispronounce words, can't speak properly and can't write good stories.

Their news team needs a a big shake-up. Send the reporters for training, award internships to top journalism students at universities, get experienced producers and writers in.

The SABC news team should look at international news networks like Sky, CNN, Al Jazeera and BBC. Their standards and quality of work is high . The SABC should aim for these standards- start by getting QUALIFIED and experienced people in get rid of cronism and nepotism.

Start by replacing the board. Posted on 6 Dec 2008 23:59

the SABC is a state organ-
all the broadcasting coporations in Africa are the same and they only favour one party(ruling party), be it ZBC, SABC,NBC. there is no problem when the main broadcaster favours a ruling party in any country, the problem is when there is a monopoly in media(conglomerates) this is where a problem lies. in a democratic state there is a need for different media organisations like etv. another thing is that the board of the sabc is elected by the ruling party.
Sabc and Icasa can never be independent as long as there is a ruling party which controls everytrhing, and i also think that parliament have no powers when coming to the issue of SABC Posted on 9 Dec 2008 08:27
