Gerwell and Bester appointed to Distell Board
Distell, South Africa's leading wines and spirits group, has appointed Prof Jakes Gerwel and Mr Piet Bester to its board.

A former Vice Chancellor of the University of the Western Cape, Prof Gerwel served as Director-General in the Office of President Mandela. He is presently director of JSE-listed companies Naspers, Old Mutual and Goldfields; and non-executive chairman of Brimstone, Africon Engineering and Educor.

Prof Gerwel is also the Chancellor of Rhodes University and chairs the board of trustees of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Mr Bester, retired executive chairman of Cadbury Schweppes, has over 30 years of experience as chief executive in the food, beverage, hotel and industrial sectors. He is currently director of ABI, Anglovaal Industries, Suidwes Beleggings and National Brands.
