Merc don't even need to advertise, they've earned the right of passage to not have to produce ground breaking advertising. If you disagree (which I imagine a lot of people would) then drive one and feel, see, experience for yourself... and no i'm not a Merc fan, I'm actually more of a beemer fan...9 Jul 2009 09:53

Mercedes advertising is to help buyers post rationalise their purchase.

And I know this having worked on their advertising for some years overseas. Yes Mercedes is a fantastic marque and a great piece of engineering. But no car is an impulse buy. Mercedes cars come at a price. So you need to feel good about the expense you have just outlayed. You need the ammunition to justify that expense to yourself - that you made such a great choice, plus you need to justify it to your mates, colleagues etc.

So this is a part of that process. It may not be ground breaking and frankly since the days of 'The Bends' ad, Mercedes advertising locally has become very dull and wall paper like. But the market that Mercedes appeals to isn't really looking for sexy, they like the safe, solid brand appeal. This advertising reflects that. But it doesn't appeal to me and I should be in that market!9 Jul 2009 14:34
