The goal of the Johannesburg Youth Ballet is to give young dancers of all races and socio-economic backgrounds an opportunity to develop their art and skills, and to work and perform in a professionally run company.

Johannesburg Youth Ballet (JYB) is a non-profit dance company. Our show this year will be “La Sylphide Act 1& 2” amongst other dances. The show is to be held at the Wits Theatre from the 8th of June to the 14th or 15th of June.

So far this year we have approximately 48 young dancers, both male and female mostly from under privileged areas, that we need to train, transport and clothe etc.

Other than any financial support that your company could possibly assist us with, we are also desperately looking for the following help:

• Prizes, gift vouchers or hampers for a fund raising raffle that we will be doing in order to assist us with raising the necessary R30 000 in order to get the “show on the road”! We also need to sell the raffle tickets so you could purchase some raffle tickets too!

• Another way of assisting us is with a long list of paint & hardware that we will need for the set & the stage for the show. We still are still in the process of assessing and designing the set and the stage, but of course the set will also depend very much on the amount of sponsorship we are able to get. Maybe you would be able to assist with supplying some of these products i.e. paint, paint brushes, canvas, other material, tools & hardware?

• We desperately need some assistance with printing our programs and posters. In the past we have printed between 300 to 400 A4 programs with approximately 20 pages, 300 A2 posters and 300 A3 posters.

• I would like to attach a long wish list of make up, dance practice attire, hair accessories, hygiene products etc. that each dancer requires. This excludes the stage set and the costumes as this has not been finalised yet.

• Donate any second hand leotards, tights, socks, ballet shoes and any other second hand dance paraphernalia that you or your children might not need anymore?

• Supply refreshments or nutritional snacks for these young dancers.

• Supply or sponsor the transport for the dancers!

• Supply the dancers with tog bags with which to carte all their dancing paraphernalia back and forth!

• Lots of different fabric and material for the costumes and set once this has been finalised!

• We will be hosting a fund raiser at the Cresta Barnyard theatre on the 22nd of May 2008. The show is La Vida. How about buying some seats or tables to see the show?

• Buy a block booking for an evening of our “La Sylphide Act 1& 2” show and treat your staff or customers to come and see The JYB show at the Wits Theatre between the 8th and 15th of June 2008?

• Advertise for us on your website!

• Create a website for us!

• Put up posters in your offices, canteens, shops or studios!

Should you be able to help the JYB, we would happily advertise for you in our program or display banners in the theatre to repay you for your sponsorship. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further information what so ever.
