Government has challenged the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) to strengthen laws pertaining to the use of various forms of technology such as internet in the country.

The recent AgriBusiness Congress in Zambia gathered the country's business and political leaders, including the Zambian vice president, Dr Guy Scott, the deputy minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Luxon Kazabu, as well as representatives of agri stakeholders Standard Bank, Shoprite, John Deer, Cargill and CHC Commodities.

Alliance Media Zambia, Zambia's largest outdoor advertising company has installed Lusaka's largest free-standing billboard structure in the capital city's upmarket area of Kabulonga. The billboard was taken up by Samsung who is using the medium to promote the newly released Galaxy S III and the Smart TV.

CNBC Africa is expected to open its ninth African bureau in Rwanda as it continues to widen its African reporting footprint. The bureau in partnership with Rwanda TV and the Rwanda Development Board, will be based in the Rwandan capital, Kigali and opens for business in September 2012.

Ogilvy & Mather and Scangroup have partnered in creating the sub-Saharan African venture, Ogilvy Africa. The partnership is via a share swap transaction, subject to regulatory and shareholder approval. Ogilvy & Mather will exchange its shareholdings in its operations outside South Africa for a combination of Scangroup shares and cash consideration.

Malawi mobile phone service provider TNM Limited has bemoaned increased depreciation charges, which it has attributed to losses posted in the 2008 - 2009 financial year. The company announced through its end results statement a decline in earnings with its net slipping from MK1.5 bn in 2008 to MK1.2bn in 2009.

Sales of single evening tickets or a weekend pass for the 2010 Loerie Awards in Cape Town, 1-3 October 2010, are now open. For every two grand seats purchased, three gallery seats can be purchased. However, educational institutions can access gallery seats by contacting the Loeries office.
