Market dependent - Is advertising best spent in free or paid-for publications? [Forum]
It depends solely on the market you are trying to reach. If your market are folks in townships, then it would be wiser to advertise in free community newspapers, community radio and free to air television. My advice is to understand your market before choosing an advertising medium. At the end of the day if your market is not seeing your ads, whether it be in free or paid for publications, then your communication strategy has failed. Try and implement tracking mechanisms in your Communication campaigns so that you are able to measure ROI.Posted on 26 Nov 2009 13:13

sad old stereotypes - Banner advertising: why do we ignore it?
Jeez, if you've got to resort to sad old stereotypes like all guys click on naked chick adverts and all girls are so desperate to get married they spend their lives clicking on ads for rings, I certainly wouldn't trust you with my online ad spend.Posted on 26 Nov 2009 11:42

Too little - SAB launches campaign to combat alcohol abuse
As South Africa gets all PC about "second hand smoke", NOTHING is being done about second hand alcohol. Creeps in the street will huff and puff and MY smoking, but say nothing to the drunk staggering towards his car. Any idea how many millions of children are DREADING Christmas? It's time to get our priorities right. Second hand smoke is NOTHING compared to second hand alcohol.Posted on 26 Nov 2009 11:09
Ad thumbs up, racial comments thumbs down! -  [OrnicoAd]
What a simple, compelling, and edutaining way to drive the message home. But ppl jus want to pull the race card even when it's IRRELEVANT! I'm proudly black and the ad gets a "GO" from me.Posted on 26 Nov 2009 10:46

Earthlings to Leanne - Good morning to yet another anchor! [In brief]
I am a normal warm blooded male that has every working body function and 20/20 vision. Not only is Leanne the most gorgeous creature to have graced our screens, but she is competent, confident and oozes sexuality, with her amazing ability to be up to date with current affairs. I cannot believe the idiotic comments from the likes of Garry, Michelle "gap in teeth" Garforth is a bimbo compared to Leanne. Look at all the anchore worldwide on morning actuality TV and they are all professional, good looking women and men, with knowledge and if that comes accross as arrogant to the ignorant masses, then time to get up to date with your own current affairs and knowledge before you jump another's higher plane.... radio killed the radio star - Who hire radio producers [Forum]
have to agree with you on that one. Radio is no longer innovative here in SA. Just a bunch of loud mouth presenters who are more concerned about their own image than anything else. This industry needs fresh talent because all we see is presenters hop from one station to the other without offering anything substantial or different to what they're used to. Music formats need a major shake up. Almost every single radio station in the country has the same playlist. Take Cape Town for example. Three big stations in Kfm, Heart and GHFM. Yet, when you switch from one to the other you get the same watered down rubbish. Whatever happened to exclusivity? Most people are under the impression that radio jocks are responsible for their own musical content in their shows...that's not the case at all. Everything is formatted and played straight from a computer, Yes, the presenter does at times have a hand in what gets played in his show, but very rarely. In fact, most radio jocks have got a background as club dj's and that is as far as their knowledge about music goes. Anyway, we live in a technology savvy society so who needs radio anyway? long live the ipod!!!!Posted on 26 Nov 2009 10:15

Meaningful debate - on Bizcommunity!??? - Marketers must look deep into new consumer's soul
Doesn't there have to be intelligence for that. Apart from the occasional comment, most of it in inane stupidity. Comments that this industry should be far above and comments that this site shouldn't even post. It amazes me what we see on Bizcommunity. If this is a reflection of our industry, then that explains the poor crap that we are being subjected to.Posted on 26 Nov 2009 09:12

email marketing can be done - Tips for achieving your marketing goals in 2010
I used to do email marketing, found that opt-in is the best way of the way.

The first step is to make people leave their email willingly. So, I started get code from Reasonable Spread – email marketing software & service. It's a web-based Email marketing platform.

After that I can see report of opens, clicks, conversion, etc.

Now, I maintain good relationship with clients closely.Posted on 26 Nov 2009 08:53

Good idea, zero effort - Marketers must look deep into new consumer's soul
Okay, right idea, but where's the substance. That quote has circulated for years, and though true, we need to carry the debate forward. This is just stating the obvious - and I'm afraid that's what bizcommunity does. Second-hand and press releases. Start a meaningful debate please.Posted on 26 Nov 2009 07:03

Absolutely! - Marketers must look deep into new consumer's soul
We chase the golden ring, think that we have all answers and know diddly. And it is reflected on our screens, newspapers and magazines. Shallow and lacking in true insight.

Consumers in Europe are starting to show consumer power by only supporting companies with a corporate consciousness about environmental and Fair Trade issues. The era of people being slaves to brands is long over. Tell me what you are going to do in return for my hard earned Rands/Dollars/ Pounds and I may spend money with you. tell me that I am important to your company deserve my custom and I will part with my money. But going Ayoba smoba and I think you are talking kuk!Posted on 25 Nov 2009 16:03
Brillant observations and insight! - Regaining your reputation after the recession: Part 1
Kate
Thank you for your brilliant observations and the insights that you have shared with us. I agree that South African banks have acted in hast and with their own interests at heart in most of the cases. In spite of all the marketing hype about how they 'care' for their customers. Looking at the lists of reposessed vehicles where a client has LESS than R30k outstanding on the vehicle provides ou with proof points of the greed and shortsightedness. The back-lash all over the world as people have lost their homes will be felt for decades to come. Once bitten, twice shy? Nici Richter, StrategistPosted on 25 Nov 2009 15:26
