Draftfcb irreverent, nasty? You bet, you Mutha!
This ads is a racist! Why are you mocking these poor whites, wena!? After everything this country has been through, whites must still suffer this humiliation and be exposed to this disgraceful public scrutiny. #justsaying Posted on 19 Jun 2012 08:07

I'm surprised having met the new President of Coke SA. I also don't think we should jump to firing any agency. Dig deeper it's usually some junior trying to make a mark. Bottom line, consumers are apathetic, so like they toss their bottles they won't boycott coke. And planet earth is the lower... Posted on 18 Jun 2012 16:17

Ah, the good ol' Streisand Effect. Whoever's handling Coke's PR should be fired PDQ before they do more damage. There are at least 3 other ways they could have handled this situation, none of which would have left them looking like pissy out-of-touch asses. Posted on 18 Jun 2012 15:37

Fascinating example of why you should sometimes let sleeping PR dogs lie.

Am wondering about the other plastic bottles - were they non-Coke brands and what's their take on the hullabaloo? Posted on 18 Jun 2012 15:19

Agency selection: do it yourself, or get a consultancy to assist?
This article illustrated beautifully just how hard it is to pick a new agency when you have to. The topics raised here are all very interesting but it made me wonder how many companies consider the financial aspects of an agency when appointing them? Whether you use a consultant or not, this is a very important part to reflect on, because you have to know if your money is safe and whether the specific agency you have in mind will still be open for business tomorrow. Agencies or businesses vetted and/or accredited with CoreXalance conform to certain criteria, ensuring that they are sustainable and financially viable. Doesn’t it make perfect sense to also include financial stability when picking a new agency? Prevention is better than cure! Posted on 18 Jun 2012 13:54

Designing with usability in mind
A great and timeous intro to UX. I think that South Africa is at an exciting point where the cultivation of a local UX community - catering towards local needs - can bring incredible value to building brand relationships. Also, it can contribute to our negotiations with digital technologies as they are set to become all the more pervasive in the SA market.
In that regard, I would like to point out a contentious point in the author's use of the phrase 'flawless UX'. Although UX strives to bridge the gap between subjective appeal, usability & accessibility, and business requirements, it invariably cannot be all-inclusive. In such a diverse market as ours, this is exactly where the SA UX community has an enormous opportunity. Posted on 18 Jun 2012 10:55

MTN withdraws adverts from CEO Magazine
Hi,
I think the publication of this story is wrong.
MTN is on the record in the story itself saying that the company did not issue any instruction of this kind.
At the very least, you should have sought a comment from Metropolitan Republic who gave the order/instruction.
Besides that, the story says quite clearly that the mobile money fraud issue that the CEO Magazine wrote about had been published in the mainstream newspapers - they certainly have not had any advertising pulled, so why would the CEO Magazine get theirs withdrawn?
I strongly suggest you re-visit your story. Posted on 16 Jun 2012 16:20
