Estate agents need to embrace online technology
Great article Bertie! In fact, research that Privateproperty.co.za recently undertook with Columinate backs up your facts absolutely. In its survey of practicing estate agents, Privateproperty.co.za found that, overall, online resources are used the most for advertising property and are considered to be the most effective. Further, agents foresee that the popularity of portals will rise in the near future, with increased demand from consumers and uptake by agents.

Insecure, threatened managers treat subordinates unjustly
Awesome article, I can so relate to what your friend in finance is going through. I've been there done that and sadly enough I too am looking elsewhere.

I've got no idea why these managers behave the way that they do. Threatened or insecure, its no excuse to mistreat your subordinates!

Social recruitment - what I've learned so far
Thanks for your very well-articulated reply.

While I agree referral recruitment is not a new concept, I do think formalizing the process through the use of a platform which equally represents both parties will significantly change its effectiveness.

Through Hiring Bounty the community has a platform that is dedicated to keeping them updated on the jobs on offer. Rather than hope an individual sees a tweet or remembers to send through a friend’s contact details, the site streamlines the process of referring. This process will be made even simpler as we move out of beta and launch additional features.

A platform also extends the network from which you can draw a referral. Even the best recruiter has a limited database and emailing everybody in that database for a referral is just another unnecessary interruption. As Hiring Bounty grows in popularity we are able to access the personal networks of an even wider group of people. This network is better informed of people’s career aspirations and is constantly up dating with movement in the industry, newly acquired skills and up to date contact details.

Jobs will continue to become more niche in their focus and as such referred candidates from people within the industry becomes the obvious source of quality candidates.

Again thanks for challenging our learnings.

Awesome article Refilwe!

May I commend you for publishing this! You ROCK! :)
You have gone BOLDLY where 98% will not!

I am right there with you.

The majority of society suffer from an affliction I refer to head-in-sand-attitudis.

Their attitude: 'Speaking up is futile' combined with 'This it is not my problem'

Then sadly there are the helpless "silenced voices" - those people living in fear because of this abuse of power and the consequences...

I would like to share following lyrics;

All of us just sat back and watched it happen
Thinkin’, “It’s not my responsibility
To solve a problem that isn’t even about me.”

This is our problem

This is just one of them daily scenarios
In which we choose to close our eyes
Instead of doing the right thing
If we make a choice

To be the voice

For those who won’t speak up for themselves
How many lives would be saved, changed, rearranged?

Now it’s our time to pick a side
So don’t keep walking by, not wanting to intervene
‘Cause you just wanna exist and never be seen

So let’s wake up,
Change the world,

Our time is now…

Business lessons to be learned from 1time airline
I do not beleive that the staff and even management knew that the company was going into liquidation as I was in their ofices the day before and assured that everything was improving and even discussed sports proposals for some athletes I am working with. I had a very good meeting with their Customer Services Manager who could not have been more positive. However, I do believe that the Chairman 'Blackie' was fully aware of what was happening and I believe that he should be held personally responsible for refunding the losses.

Where are women voices in talk radio?
So true! There should be an initiative for girls to go to if they're interested in radio - do you know if there's one like that out there?

I totally agree with you. There's a total lack of women in talk radio. Perhaps you should take the initiative to break the barrier on our behalf. I've never worked on radio and I think it's a fascinating platform to reach all communities.

Where are women voices in talk radio?
I found your article thought provoking but I am wondering whether the particular talk station's target audience is also not a factor. If the station is not targeted broadly at a certain type of listener I am not sure how views from that section can be encouraged. And i agree that stations shouldnt subscribe to the stereotypes of having dating shows to attract women callers because while it's important, its also condescending considering men wont be drawn by such conversations.
