What do we need?

What will they be doing (the main purpose of the job) for/with whom in what environment?

 We are looking for a creative and commercially minded head of marketing and retail who will take responsibility for developing and implementing strategic plans that attract potential customers through innovative branding, campaigns and communications as well as drive sales and market share. The strategy must include a plan for the retail shops to deliver a positive customer experience and that sales are strengthened through the merchandising and appropriate pricing of the correct product mix.

You will need to be able to analyse the market and business data, produce insights, generate reports and identify and implement innovation, product and growth opportunities.

There are staff members reporting to you that support marketing campaigns and merchandising, but you will also depend on branch staff to carry out certain tasks. It will, therefore, be important for you to be able to influence and build good relationships with staff in other departments, both at the head office and in the branches.

Work environment

 Although you will spend some of your time at your desk, this is by no means a typical ‘desk job’. This role involves regular travel between the branches and retail outlets in order to carry out your duties. The delivery of marketing campaigns will also take you out of the office and in some cases promotions and events may require occasional work over weekends and in the evenings

What is expected from this job?
  • Develops an understanding of the market environment, retail trends and of the customer (market segmentation) through analysis of data
  • Develops a marketing and retail strategy and plans in line with the business strategy for all brands that focus on growing sales and market share
  • Makes recommendations for innovation, product and growth opportunities and manages the implementation of approved projects
  • Develops and maintains consistency of brand image and message for all brands and products
  • Delivers above and below the line marketing campaigns
  • Enhances the online presence and raises the profile of the company and its products through effective and innovative digital communications
  • Builds TAH profile through appropriate PR, events and advertising according to the strategy & plan
  • Manages a positive, consistent customer experience at the branches and retail shops according to brand standards
To be a good fit for this job you need
  • Degree in commerce or marketing
  • 10 years' marketing management experience in a retail, consumer marketing environment where at least 5 years are at a senior level developing and implementing the strategy as well as managing staff.
  • If you can tick these you will have an advantage:
  • Short course in digital marketing
  • Exposure to implementing e-commerce platforms
Skills, knowledge, personal qualities:
  • Computer literacy especially MS Excel
  • Market research
  • Strategic marketing experience, having managed marketing roadmaps targeted to consumers
  • Setting and reviewing budgets and managing cost
  • Experience in implementing BTL and digital marketing campaigns
  • Experience in brand development and management
  • Influencing and presentation skills
  • Strong project management skills with an ability to work across teams and with third parties (agencies) to deliver projects
Able to build constructive relationships, good interpersonal skills.

This position requires a creative, solutions-driven mindset but the strategies and plans must be built on a solid analysis of business data so it is essential that you have the requisite commercial, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to ensure that the marketing strategy drives sales and market share.
