Senior Information and Reservation Consultant

(Location: Long Street)


In this role, you will assist the area supervisor with overall management of the visitor information centre in a manner that is financially viable and beneficial to all stakeholders. The position requires interacting with more visitors with the intention of having in-destination visitors stay longer, spend more and experience more in Cape Town. The senior information and reservation consultant will be responsible for the day to day operations of the VIC, including staff and visitor related functions. 

Duties and responsibilities:

Creating a welcoming environment
  • To provide an approachable local welcome to visitors to Cape Town
  • To inspire visitors to explore Cape Town
Sales focus 
  • Ability to identify and react accurately to the behaviour and emotions of customers
  • Internally driven to meet sales targets 
Motivate and coordinating the team
  • Maintaining employee attendance records and leave reports
  • Assisting the area supervisor on the implementation of policies and procedures 
  • Assisting the area supervisor on Implementing the operational plans with respect to the approved schedule
  • Monitoring the on-going work and identifying the problems if any
  • Supervising the daily operations of the team
  • Communicating with the Area Supervisor and employees to understand the problems and other important aspects
Excellent customer service
  • To proactively assist with visitor queries
  • To communicate reliable local information to visitors
  • Providing proper customer service by responding to their questions and complaints in a timely manner
Financial management
  • Reconciliations of daily sales today end reports 
  • Daily Banking
  • Stock control
Competencies/skills:
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in the tourism industry
  • National certificate or national diploma or relevant qualification
  • Analytical skills
  • Computer literacy 
  • Passionate and positive attitude 
  • Good listening skills
  • Metro-wide product knowledge is essential
  • The ideal candidate should be flexible enough to work on weekends, in the evenings and public holidays as and where operationally needed
  • The ability to speak, read and write at least two of the 11 official SA languages,  and knowledge of a third language is highly advantageous
