Java Developer  

ENVIRONMENT:
A Cape Town based IT company requires a Java Developer with a B.Sc degree or similar tertiary qualification, preferably in Computer Science and 2-3 years experience in Java development. Experience in developing applications in a financial and/or retail environment particularly with regards to transaction processing is an advantage.

DUTIES:
Develop applications in the following areas:
1. Transaction switching applications.
-These are applications that process transactions from our customers and transmit them to authorising institutions.
The applications are developed based on a build framework and transaction processing software development kit.
2. Integration of POS applications to the transaction-processing switch.
-Transactions originating in multi-lane retail stores need to be received from the POS system in use by the retailer.
In most cases, an integration layer is developed to accommodate the interface available from the POS, and to transmit transactions to the transaction-processing switch.
3. Management products.
-The company offers a suite of management products to its customers, allowing them to participate in the transaction-processing environment, especially as regards access to data available on the switch.
-Development in these areas includes drafting of specifications, user documentation, release notes and packaging of the completed application for deployment.

REQUIREMENTS:
1. B.Sc degree or similar tertiary qualification, preferably in Computer Science.
2. 2-3 years experience in Java development.
3. Advantageous:
-Experience in developing applications in a financial and/or retail environment particularly with regards to transaction processing.
-Experience with ISO 8583 specifications, and particularly with the Postilion transaction processing software.
-Some exposure to web application development.
