BI Business/Systems Analyst Developer

Job description

A well-known retail services client is recruiting a BI business and systems analyst developer to join their organisation within a permanent capacity.

Role purpose and objectives:

BI, customer analytics team description:

The role of the BI, customer analytics team is to develop the data warehouse and analytics infrastructure in accordance with the company’s application development standards and best practices. Their objective is to make available quality data to the business and enable an analytics culture in the enterprise.

This role encompasses gathering business requirements, solution analysis, solution design, and engaging various vendors to facilitate solution delivery. You will guide vendors with solution efforts including analysis design, architecture considerations, and post-implementation support.

The team will collaborate with quality and test analysts to ensure deliverables are built in accordance with defined quality standards. Relevant operational groups are involved to perform service transition activities to ensure production transition is successful by documenting application specifications and generating training materials including operational support manuals.

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities will span across the below streams. 

Team responsibilities:
  • Analyse, design, develop and unit test application code that satisfies application solution design requirements
  • Oversee the execution and execute unit test plans, debug and apply subsequent fixes to resolve defects across test cycles
  • Support services for application issues
  • Inform solution architects and project managers on task status, risks and issues
  • Peer reviews and sign-off of designs, builds and unit test documentation
  • Comply to relevant application integration coding techniques and standards as defined by the Client
  • Collaborate with application solution architects, business analysts and other technical resources on the delivery of application functionality
  • Document application specifications and produce operational support manuals
  • Perform detailed activity task management including task estimates and task progress updates
  • Develop and maintain code repositories according to established version management approaches and methods as defined by relevant group IT functions
  • Operates within a DevOps framework
  • Works across the waterfall and agile project methodologies
Analyst responsibilities:
  • Engage business to understand requirements and translate those into functional analytical and reporting processes.
  • Documenting functional and analytical requirements
  • Engage business in data discovery to identify data elements and metrics to resolve business challenges.
  • Build reports in Excel and Pyramid and support business with queries on these tools.
  • Assist with solution design
  • Project manage minor projects and CIP
  • Testing solution
  • Guiding the development team in technical solution delivery


Business and technical know-how:
  • Good understanding of the merchandise, supply chain and store operations business processes and metrics used by business.
  • Proficient in Excel and Pyramid and other BI reporting tools
  • Good data analysis skills
  • Working knowledge of BI product such as SQL, analysis services, Reporting Services
Certifications – academic:
  • College diploma or university degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent application integration development experience 
Experience – role-specific:
  • Minimum five years’ experience BI
Experience – industry-specific:
  • Minimum five years’ experience working within a Retail domain
