A well-known retail services client is recruiting an Executive Business Relationship Manager to join in a permanent capacity to work on two of their retail subsidiaries, HR & Strategy IT systems.


Role purpose and objectives:

The purpose of the Business Relationship Manager (BRM) role is to establish shared accountability and improve the Group Information Systems (GIS) credibility with the relevant Business Unit (BU) through a quality relationship. In addition, the role will provide the face of the Company’s GIS in the company’s business, successfully enabling business processes, enhancing capability, reducing complexity and improving decision-making through the cost-effective use of Information Technology (IT).

The objective of the role includes the following:
  • Stakeholder management as the face of the company’s GIS to the Business Units (BU)
  • Provide IT strategic input into BU strategy
  • Match IT Capability to Business requirements
  • Search for IT value add innovation opportunities that increase Business performance
  • Implement the Company’s GIS strategies within the Business Unit and ensure stakeholder alignment and buy-in
  • Provide strategic leadership on Business Unit IT demand and manage demand into the Company’s GIS Delivery Engine
  • Manage the prioritizing of the Business Demand within the Business Unit with the key stakeholders
  • Ensure delivery of Business Unit projects as agreed on GIS Roadmap
  • Optimise cost of the Company’s GIS Service delivery to the Business Unit
  • Evaluate new and emerging technology capabilities on behalf of the BU
  • Support IT Architecture and drive Guiding GIS Principles
  • Provide an escalation channel for the Company’s GIS related issues
  • Manage Service Level Agreements on behalf of the Business Unit and into the Company’s GIS
  • Innovate and evaluate relevant new and emerging technologies seeking Business Unit value
  • Support the Company’s Group IT Governance functions in roll out of Standards, Policies & Procedures to the Business Unit
  • Manage Business Unit Technology Risk
  • Support Business Partner Technology Decision making
  • Manage Organisational Change
  • Identify Innovation and Continuous Service Improvement opportunities
Key Responsibilities:

Engage Business Units
  1. Stakeholder management as the face of the Company’s Group IT to the Business Units (BU)
  2. Understand the Business Unit Strategy and associated IT Impacts
  3. Establish and Manage the Business Engagement Reviews with the Business
  4. Develop the Business Unit Technology roadmap in conjunction with the Business and Group IT
  5. Develop success metrics for the Business and IT
  6. Drive the Change Management
  7. Drive User education and adoption
  8. Enable business leaders and their teams to make technology decisions
  9. Incubate technology conversations as part of the business strategy
  10. Shape all technology demand within the business unit
  11. Develop business cases in conjunction with the Business representatives and ensure adherence to the relevant governance processes
  12. Apply the guiding IT principles into the business
Deliver for the Business
  1. Develop Business Cases for technology projects, identifying costs and benefits, and supporting them through the project approval process.
  2. Understand the new business opportunities for the chain and liaise with the supplier management team to ensure that they have a comprehensive view of the pipeline and can plan accordingly.
  3. Support the project team with the development, management and prioritisation of the project roadmap.
  4. Involved in Benefits realizations and returns learnings to the Business
  5. Seeks efficiencies to current BU or Operation processes and practices
  6. Provide a plan for continuous improvement in processes, services and solutions
Delivery of IT Strategy
  1. Within IT, contribute to the wider strategy planning, ensuring chain’s requirements are included.
  2. Applies architecture principles to business design to clearly link strategic objectives to Business Operations and IT initiatives
  3. Support the architecture team with the development of the architecture roadmap.
  4. Evaluates the value and technical fit of emerging and new-to-organisation technologies
Innovation and continuous Service Improvement
  1. Bringing innovation into the Group IT team through a detailed understanding of retail trends, customer needs and emerging solutions within specific retail sector (Fashion, GM etc.).
  2. Seeks ways to optimise cost of delivery to the business
  3. Promote a culture of innovation. Continuously seek to identify pain-points, opportunities, or inefficiencies where technology can bring a value-add solution or increase efficiency.
  4. Assist with the formulation and cascading of relevant KPI’s and performance management processes throughout the business
  5. Identify and prioritise improvement areas from benchmarking exercises
Ensure framework and service is transferrable (easy to set up for changes to business) and scalable (accommodate complex or simple functional structures).

Performance Monitoring and Reporting
  1. Assist with the formulation and cascading of relevant KPI’s and performance management processes throughout the Business
  2. Ensure awareness of sustainable good quality management information for the Company’s Group IT and the Business
  3. Co-ordinate and interpret relevant operational metrics for interpretation and consolidation for the Business Engagement review
Technology Risk and Compliance
  1. Work with the broader Group IT functions to ensure that Business Unit Technology Risk is actively managed
  2. Development and review of risk policies with the respective business unit
  3. Integration of risk practices into the technology operations of the Business
  4. Co-ordinate delivery of audit items against and management actions from assurance exercises
  5. Involvement in annual audit and compliance planning cycles in conjunction with the business
  6. Incubate security risk conversations through the various touch-points into the business
Competencies:
  • Ability to work in a high-change environment
  • Retail experience preferred but not essential
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders managing complex environments
  • Ability to work within and through a team by driving high-performance culture
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and business complexity
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in executive stakeholder management
  • Experience in strategy, planning and implementation
  • Experience in Portfolio management and Programme implementation
  • Ability to work with and influence Director/C-Suite Executives
  • Strong leadership skills demonstrated through significant people-management experience over several years’ credibility and stature to operate at a senior level
  • Strong acumen for influencing, facilitating, challenging and negotiating.
  • Previous experience in large scale projects, developing user requirements and managing project risk


Requirements

Essential skills and experience required for this role: Minimum Professional Qualification and Experience required
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business qualification
  • MBA an advantage
  • Management consulting or equivalent skills would be advantageous
Experience:
  • 10 years or more relevant IT experience, of which at least five must have been spent in a leadership role and at least three years dealing with C-Suite stakeholders
Technical Qualification Requirements:
  • ITIL, Service Management Certifications, PMP or PRINCE2
