Job description

Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

Achieve financial KPAs
  • Drive revenue as measured by Demand and Net Sales
  • Manage category margin
  • Maximise the conversion of demand to net sales
  • Manage category stock efficiency
  • Manage stock availability
Merchandise financial planning
  • Develop a balanced range and react to trade to rebalance the range
  • Manage inventory so as to achieve targeted stock efficiencies
  • Manage forward buy levels in accordance with OTB
  • Manage the inflow of stock so as to achieve stock availability targets
  • Manage promotions and engage with channel owners so as to drive sales velocity
  • Stay abreast of market trends so as to implement best in class practices
  • Product timely reporting to ensure management remain up-to-date on category performance
  • Undertake analysis that supports or challenges category/business strategy
  • Ensure that capturing of quality data so as to support quality analysis
Process improvement
  • Identify and drive process improvements
  • Support strategic corporate projects
Talent management
  • Communicate performance goals and standards so that the team understand expectations
  • Recognise, reinforce, and reward contributions so as to ensure team engagement
  • Coach and develop staff and self for current and future responsibilities


Qualifications and accreditations
  • Tertiary commercial/retail qualification, preferably University Degree

Experience and skills
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working as a merchandise planner in a ‘blue chip’ retail organisation
  • Computer literate with Excel (advanced), MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Ability to work independently and interface with multiple management levels and multiple areas of the company
