Senior Systems Administrator - Linux - Ensure Personnel

Our Client, a mobile communications company in Cape Town urgently requires a Senior Systems Administrator (Linux).

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
* Manage the operations team (Jnr sysadmin and DBA)
* Ensuring secure and reliable operations and uptime of all
servers and applications 24x7.
* Run the CPT, JHB and LAGOS datacentre - all servers (40) and
services.
* Ordering and installation of new servers (Configuring
hardware and software).
* Perform all patches, housekeeping on server operating
systems.
* Monitor system logs and activities on all servers.
* Configure SNMP checks for all services using nagios and cacti
monitoring.
* Ensure network stability: LAN, Telkom, diginet lines, IS
* Monitoring bandwidth usage patterns, investigate
irregularities.
* Basic database support on all dataservers. (MySQL and Sybase)
* Building of RPM packages for easy deployment and rollback of
internal applications and code.
* Deployments of all code to development, QA and production
environments.
* Recovery and troubleshooting of failed deployments, rollbacks
etc.
* Maintain Request Tracker (RT - ticketing system)
* Ensuring prompt resolution to RT tickets logged in sysadmin
queue. (SLA)
* Administer company email server; email security and access;
spam and virus blocking. (exim, spamassassin, clamav, trend
micro)
* Maintain DHCP, NIS, SAMBA, FTP, DNS for the entire network.
* Apache: VHOSTS, SSL, access reports, logs, etc
* SMS server deployments, config and monitoring (binds, IP's,
errors, stability)
* Deal with all the cellular networks. Tech support, SMS
tracking, networking, routing, IVR etc
* Ensure reliable antivirus and anti spyware for all network
devices.
* Server backups, disaster recovery, high availability,
capacity planning
* Manage all firewalls. PIX 515E, GNAT GB2000 (and iptables)
* Manage all switches and routers (Cisco and HP)
* Support for all xml content feeds: movies, sport, news etc
* Ensure operating temperature in datacentres - Regular aircon
servicing etc
* Upgrade/replace and troubleshoot problematic server hardware
as needed.
* Fill in as desktop support when needed. (Linux, Windows PC's,
printers etc)
* Maintain equipment inventory register (datacentre).
* Provide training and support to operators and Jnr. sysadmin
* Be available 24x7 for all critical tech problems.
* Weekly systems status report to CEO
* Documentation of production environment and changes.
