Overview of the role:

Penquin is a results driven agency that help our clients sell more products to more people more often.

The Penquin media manager serves as the senior media expert for the agency and is responsible for ensuring communication/ media strategies meet or exceed the strategic requirements of our clients, ultimately leading to the right consumer behaviour and transaction. This includes leading and managing relationships between media team, digital, client Service, creative teams, designers, and analysts to maintain and expand business within existing client accounts and help uncover new business opportunities; providing industry expertise and thought leadership on new media venues, trends, risks, opportunities and resources; and sharing/disseminating information to ensure that all team members have the knowledge to become integrated media consultants to our clients.

A strong leader, confident, experienced, energetic, can do attitude, inspired by ideas, extracts the best out of a team and will motivate and justify decisions in a passionate but objective way through team and client collaboration. Always ready to roll up sleeves and jump in to capitalise on opportunities or solve issues.

 Role purpose:
  • Responsible for developing, generating, and maintaining new and existing business for our relevant Media products and services
  • Work with marketers to understand their media strategy and campaign objectives and develop strategies to meet their goals
  • Collaborate with teams across the company to win new business and upsell existing advertisers
  • Collaborate closely with traditional media, digital and social media teams and our relevant client service team for joint initiatives to present to clients
  • Build strategy and positioning documents for bringing the offering to market
  • Prepare and present relevant Media, this includes traditional, digital and social media opportunities to clients.
  • Be well versed in digital advertising marketplace and trends including knowledge of programmatic, social, mobile monetization, and Rich Media solutions
  • Manage a team of relevant traditional, digital and social media experts.
  • Lead, develop, motivate, and mentor support teams of sales planner and sales assistant by developing strong team alliance, inclusive participation and structured training
  • Meet and exceed individual and team revenue goals
  • Build strategic media plans in line with our client campaigns and needs
  • Maintain direct and agency client relationships, and deliver superior customer service to both internal and external clients
  • Consistent exercise of independent, judgment, and discretion in matters of significance
Management role

Manage the day to day running of the media department, this includes but is not limited to:
  • Working closely with relevant media experts to ensure media plans are strategically aligned with other marketing elements as they relate to client needs
  • Project management of all briefs to ensure that all deadlines are met by the team
  • Management of all budgets
  • Coordinating the efforts of various team members to ensure that work is delivered timeously and within budget, which includes but is not limited to supervising employee performance and time management


  • A solid understanding of advertising, marketing, and strategic brand management, and how to best leverage these in a digital environment.
  • Knowledge of the digital marketing and advertising landscape, the unique technical aspects of the medium, and their impact on the development and execution of media strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead team in a highly collaborative environment to develop and execute media plans for clients in a variety of industries.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative agency environment with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Superior oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Strong project management and performance management skills.
  • Demonstrated budget management and resource planning experience.
  • The ability to successfully manage multiple internal and external initiatives/projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of ROI on various projects and media platforms with the ability to translate opportunities into sales.
  • CHASE system experience.
