Job description

Great nursing opportunities at Netcare Christiaan Barnard Hospital.
Requirements:
  • Up to date, paid-up registration with SANC with relevant qualifications for your nursing specialist discipline
  • Relevant and practical experience as an ICU Nurse is essential
  • Additional ICU trained qualification essential where the requirement is stated
  • Able to work flexible shift work hours
Seven ENs in CCU – experienced
  • Provide safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors
  • Co-operate and collaborate with other hospital departments to provide quality patient care
  • Liaise with the relevant parties on patient care and wellbeing
  • Keep accurate records at all times
  • Supervise and evaluate the quality of patient care through patient rounds
Four RNs in CCU - ICU trained (experienced in cardiac/coronary)
  • Assisting physicians in performing procedures and collaborating with fellow members of the critical care team
  • Observing and recording patient vital signs and administering the relevant intravenous fluids and medications
  • Ensuring that ventilators, monitors and other types of medical equipment function properly
  • Responding to life-saving situations, using nursing standards and protocols for treatment
  • Applying patient advocacy, providing education and support to patients families
One clinical facilitator - five years’ experience as an RN (experience in ICU and CCU environment - education qualification essential)
  • Motivate and encourage learners to participate in research within their Scope of Practice
  • Audit and participate in quality improvement programmes to identify problems which may require research
  • Facilitate the marking of case studies and assignments in line with Netcare Education requirements
  • Keep accurate learner clinical records
  • Plan, organise and ensure active involvement in the process and production of all academic related projects
  • Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards etc
  • Adhere to the Netcare Resuscitation and Reanimation policy
  • Adhere to Netcare Medical waste management principles and all other waste management compliances
  • Responsible for ensuring correct use, cleaning and storage of equipment, report equipment needing repair or replacement
  • Conduct quality assurance activities and risk management
  • Compliance with all legislative requirements, standards and company policies.
  • Actively involved in the selection of learners, both at Netcare Education and at the hospital
  • Keep up to date with Netcare's evolving policies and procedures

Two clinical nurse specialists (trained) – three years’ experience as a shift leader and RN (exposure to a demanding multi disciplinary CCU, MICU, high care facility)
  • Second in-charged to the Unit Manager and acts as a shift leader for the shift he/she is responsible for
  • Responsible for the delivery and coordination of competent nursing care during the shift for which the CNS is responsible
  • Supports and supervise less experienced staff, acts as a preceptor for new staff, and assists in the clinical teaching of learners
  • Provide leadership in the clinical situation, and acts as an influential role model for the best competent professional practice
  • Contribute to the ongoing research, development and review of the best practice in the speciality
  • Co-operate and collaborate with other hospital departments to provide appropriate support services.
  • Acts as a resource in the clinical speciality as a result of advanced and broad knowledge and skills in that speciality
  • Allocate staff members in a manner that promotes optimal use of staff to provide appropriate nursing care for the individual patient regarding his / her needs and specialised skills needed by the nursing staff member
  • Keep up to date with Netcare's evolving policies and procedures
  • Foster good interpersonal relations and public relations while interpreting/applying the philosophy, goals, objectives, policies and procedures
  • Actively participate as a member of a team to achieve goals
Two RNs in PICU - three to four trained/experienced
  • Provide safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors
  • Co-operate and collaborate with other hospital departments to provide quality patient care
  • Liaise with the relevant parties on patient care and wellbeing
  • Keep accurate records at all times
  • Supervises and evaluate the quality of patient care through patient rounds
