ENVIRONMENT: A Cape Town based IT company requires a System Administrator with Cisco firewall and routers and network design, troubleshooting, vlans, vpn etc (TCP/IP). Linux server and application installations, administration (CentOS/Redhat experience preferable) and Bash scripting is required.
DUTIES: 1. Contributes to a high performance environment. 2. Generate, implement, maintain and monitor operating systems and/or software, network data communications packages within the business including documenting procedures and operating methods. 3. Provide technical assistance as well as troubleshooting problems on the system. 4. Design and/or enhance automated systems. 5. Manage the operations team (Junior System Administrator and DBA). 6. Ensuring secure and reliable operations and uptime of all servers and applications 24x7. 7. Run the CPT, JHB and LAGOS datacentre - all servers (40) and services. 8. Ordering and installation of new servers (configuring hardware and software). 9. Perform all patches, housekeeping on server operating systems. 10. Monitor system logs and activities on all servers. 11. Configure SNMP checks for all services using nagios and cacti monitoring. 12. Ensure network stability: LAN, Telkom, diginet lines, IS. 13. Monitoring bandwidth usage patterns, investigate irregularities. 14. Basic database support on all dataservers. (MySQL and Sybase). 15. Building of RPM packages for easy deployment and rollback of internal applications and code. 16. Deployments of all code to development, QA and production environments. 17. Recovery and troubleshooting of failed deployments, rollbacks etc. 18. Maintain Request Tracker (RT - ticketing system). 19. Ensuring prompt resolution to RT tickets logged in System Admin queue (SLA). 20. Administer company email server; email security and access; Spam and virus blocking. (exim, spamassassin, clamav, trend micro). 21. Maintain DHCP, NIS, SAMBA, FTP and DNS for the entire network. 22. Apache: VHOSTS, SSL, access reports, logs, etc. 23. SMS server deployments, configuration and monitoring (binds, IP's, errors, stability). 24. Deal with all the cellular networks. Tech support, SMS tracking, networking, routing, IVR etc. 25. Ensure reliable ant virus and anti spyware for all network devices. 26. Server backups, disaster recovery, high availability, capacity planning. 27. Manage all firewalls. PIX 515E, GNAT GB2000 (and iptables). 28. Manage all switches and routers (Cisco and HP). 29. Support for all XML content feeds: movies, sport, news etc. 30. Ensure operating temperature in datacentres - regular aircon servicing etc. 31. Upgrade/replace and troubleshoot problematic server hardware as needed. 32. Fill in as desktop support when needed (Linux, Windows PC's, printers, etc.). 33. Maintain equipment inventory register (datacentre). 34. Provide training and support to operators and Junior System Administrator. 35. Be available 24x7 for all critical tech problems. 36. Weekly systems status report to CEO. 37. Documentation of production environment and changes.
