An opportunity exists with a reputable client of ours urgently seeking an Editor. You will report directly to the Publisher
Scope of the position: The Editor will be accountable for overseeing and managing the editing, writing and design of the magazine and its supplements.
Editing: - Selecting topics that are pertinent (and if necessary commercial) in collaboration with the Publisher and keeping a calendar of content for ease of reference - Deciding on fresh angles and side bars for each topic - Briefing writers and appointing them using company policy. - Preparing an editorial precise for each issue for the advertising sales team and preparing these three months in advance of deadlines. - Prepare an annual features brief. - Prepare deadline schedules as necessary and adjust as required. - Ensuring that all copy is in on stipulated deadlines and to standard. - Rejecting copy that is not to brief/standard - Editing the content copy plus side bars/intro blurbs/exploded quotes/sub heads etc - Proof reading and signing off all page proofs when entirely satisfied. - Devising and delivering covers with impact
Requirements Writing: - An incisive and opinionated editorial column - Articles - Side bars - Snippets. - Intro blurbs, exploded quotes, sub heads, captions etc - Précis for sales team - Promotional copy for rate card as required - Cover slugs - Contents
Design: - Guiding the layout artist each issue by providing input on the use of language within the design and ensuring that pics and other illustrative devices are provided that are in keeping with the overall design. - Managing the layout process to ensure quality, adherence to the principal design and deadlines.
Internal meetings/communication - Attending a weekly status meeting with the publisher and sales team and providing a written status report beforehand - Meeting with the layout artist to present all the content for each issue and follow up meetings as required. - Liaising when appropriate with the Editor of the on-line site
External meetings/communication: - Organising and meeting with the editorial advisory board at least twice a year. Advantageous General: - Attending appropriate industry functions on behalf of the company. - Other duties as directed by the Publisher.
Personal Skills/Attributes - Min 5 - 10 years exp essential - Must send work not bigger than 2 megs of your best work for us to look at - Must have a qualification - Stable track record and excellent references - Able to meet tight deadlines
