Radio 2000 Plight of the homeless
Radio 2000 and The Mall of Rosebank hosted a successful power breakfast to launch the second phase of the Plight of the homeless campaign - the Pledge-Athon, an initiative to raise funds for the 35 shelters associated with the campaign. The power breakfast was held on Friday 27th July at Maxi's Restaurant.

The event kicked-off with Radio 2000's entertaining Rise and Rock breakfast show live from the mall and directly into the power breakfast where we launched with the pledge-athon. Coming to the fore was Maxi's and the Mall of Rosebank pledging R5 000.00 each and challenging other Malls and food franchises to beat and/match their pledge.

All funds raised will be used to assist the associated shelters in regards to any renovations and maintenance of the individual shelters.

The stations presenters Ray White and Nicole Da Silva, Michele Constant, Barney Simon and Benjy Mudie definitely pulled together in challenging the corporates to pledge and make a difference to a growing statistic of the homeless. Present during the outside broadcast was local talent Farryl Purkiss, the Parlotones, The Black Hotels, Wonderboom, Southworld and Harris Tweed, who rocked the mall with unplugged versions of their latest hits.

We would like to acknowledge all our partners who made the event the huge success that it was; the Mall of Rosebank, Maxi's Restaurant, the Department of Social Development, Coca-Cola and to all our corporate guests who attended.

Mr K. Legoro, Gauteng MEC of social development was interviewed on the Rise and Rock Breakfast show, applauding the initiative and talking about the increasing numbers that plague SA in regards to poverty and the homeless, saying that "The Plight of the homeless campaign is definitely one instance of a CSI campaign that all South Africans need to embrace to assist government in alleviating the plight of the homeless."

The HOD of the Department of Social Development, Mr Bheki Sibeko, gave a profound speech in regards to initiatives that the department is currently working on and encouraged the citizens and corporate SA to actively participate in the plight that we as SA face.

We all can still make a difference by sending an SMS to 33016, type in pledge and the amount that you would like to donate. The SMS pledge line will be open until the end of August 2007.
